Alkami is adding a Senior Staff DBA to our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. As a Senior Staff DBA at Alkami, you'll be at the forefront of our mission to revolutionize digital banking experiences. You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of our PostgreSQL database infrastructure. With your deep expertise in PostgreSQL, you'll serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), driving excellence in database management practices and team operations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop processes and procedures for the management of all database technologies the team supports. 

• Complete infrastructure planning, provisioning, and maintenance tasks to ensure the required resources are available for application functionality.

• Monitor and troubleshoot database instances. 

• Perform root-cause analysis in response to database environment events.

• Identify opportunities for improved system performance and create solutions.

• Perform code reviews, and assist teams across the organization with query optimization.

• Modify and build automated environment installation and setup processes.

• Serve as a SME for specific technical topics and team operations.

• Architect database high availability and database backup and restore processes.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure architectural and procedural guidelines are followed. 

• Lead database compliance reviews and walkthroughs. 

• Contribute to other team efforts as needed to support day-to-day database operations.

• Test and evaluate new technologies.

• Provide guidance and mentorship to team members.

• Participate in production support on-call rotation to triage and resolve critical issues outside of business hours. 

Qualifications:

• 12 years of experience as a Database Administrator working with PostgreSQL 12 or higher; or 8 years of experience with an advanced degree.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another related field, or equivalent experience in a related field. 6 years of experience configuring and managing AWS RDS\Aurora PostgreSQL.

• Strong knowledge of cloud computing computing concepts and infrastructure management.

• Experience performing PostgreSQL major version upgrades.

• Strong knowledge of common database administration tasks in AWS RDS\Aurora such as backup & restore, security, partitioning, disaster recovery, parameter group changes, and cron job scheduling.

• Proven experience in performance tuning concepts.

• Experience utilizing IAC tools (Terraform, Cloudformation) to manage infrastructure.

• Prior experience supporting database and application development teams.

• Thorough knowledge reading and writing complex SQL scripts.

• General knowledge reading and writing Python, Bash or other scripting technologies for task automation.

• The ability to solve complex problems independently using analysis and research.

• Strong communication (written and verbal) and collaboration skills, with the ability to provide technical input both internally and externally.

• Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.

• Experience working in a PCI/SOX, or other compliance regulated environment.

• General knowledge of at least one other database technology, with a preference towards SQL Server.

• Ability to work on-call rotation.

Desired Skills:

• Master's degree in technology, engineering, or related field.
• Strong experience with monitoring and observability tools, i.e., AWS Cloudwatch, Performance Insights, and Grafana
• Experience using AWS Data Migration Service

Nice to Have:

• Experience with database platform migrations
