Job Summary
The Battery R&D Cell Technician will support technical development assignments under general guidance to assist Development Engineers and Scientists in battery component development. The role involves the safe and accurate execution of experiments in both laboratory and manufacturing settings with limited supervision. The technician will handle materials in a glove box and operate various analytical instruments and battery testing equipment.
Training will be provided on safety protocols, chemical analysis, material characterization instruments, battery cell fabrication, and testing. This position offers a hands-on, fast-paced work environment within a growing team passionate about material and battery development. Successful performance will require initiative, innovation, practicality, adaptability, dependability, precision, and a strong focus on safety.
Daily activities include preparing material samples, assembling and testing coin cells and single-layer pouch (SLP) cells, performing material characterization, organizing data, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safe and efficient lab operations.

Responsibilities
- Process electrode materials, including slurry mixing and coating.
- Assemble coin cells and single-layer pouch cells and conduct performance testing.
- Assist engineers and scientists with coating formulations, cell design, and cell assembly.
- Contribute to process improvements and troubleshooting.
- Perform analysis using instruments such as SEM, XRD, TGA, DSC, and BET.
- Evaluate electrode and cell performance through post-mortem analysis.
- Ensure proper glove box operation and maintenance.
- Perform regular preventative maintenance and calibration of lab equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment following 5S principles.
- Follow health, environment, and safety (HES) protocols for chemical handling and waste disposal.
- Strong understanding of battery materials, fabrication, and testing.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot technical issues with minimal supervision.
- Consistent accuracy in data recording and experiment execution.
- Flexibility to handle changing priorities and project requirements.
- Effective communication and collaboration with engineers, scientists, and technicians.
- Proactive approach to improving processes and contributing to team goals.
- Strong commitment to following safety guidelines and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Required Education: Associate’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering Technology, Applied Science) or equivalent experience; Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other relevant field.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience as a battery cell technician in an R&D environment, with a strong focus on high-precision execution of processes and experiments.
- Experience with air-sensitive materials and glove box operation.
- Experience with battery fabrication processes (e.g., mixing, coating, calendaring, densification).
- Broad knowledge of coin cell and pouch cell testing using equipment such as Arbin, Biologic, and Neware is preferred.
- Experience with single-layer pouch cells and testing is a strong plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Comfortable performing hand-intensive, repetitive tasks within a glove box for extended periods.
- Familiarity with chemical analysis and material characterization instruments (SEM, XRD, TGA, DSC, BET).
