Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Kennel Manager to lead a team of 8 dedicated staff members and over 350 volunteers in providing outstanding care for the dogs and cats in our busy kennel. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care, a passion for supporting the health and well-being of animals, and exceptional leadership skills to ensure our team operates efficiently while upholding our core values of compassion, respect, responsibility, excellence, learning, and customer focus.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management:
- Oversee daily operations of the kennel and ensure the team is aligned with organizational goals and values.
- Train, mentor, and supervise 10 employees to maintain a high standard of care and professionalism.
- Schedule shifts and manage staff performance to ensure adequate coverage and optimal efficiency.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork and growth.
Animal Care:
- Ensure all animals receive daily enrichment, behavioral assessments, and personalized care.
- Monitor the health and well-being of all animals, administering basic medical care when needed.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, behavior, and care activities.
- Address and manage any behavioral concerns with appropriate interventions.
Facility Maintenance:
- Oversee and participate in daily cleaning tasks to maintain a safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment.
- Implement protocols for cleanliness and infection control to protect animal and human health.
- Ensure all equipment and supplies are stocked, functional, and properly maintained.
Customer Relations:
- Provide excellent customer service by interacting with clients in a friendly and professional manner.
- Communicate clearly with pet owners, volunteers, and staff about their/our pets’ needs, behaviors, and health updates.
- Handle concerns or complaints with empathy and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced training or certifications in animal care, behavior, or management preferred.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Solid knowledge of animal care, behavior, and basic medical protocols.
- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, walking, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in an environment with animals, including exposure to noise, hair, and allergens.
