Job purpose
The Structural Fitter Foreman is responsible for overseeing all assigned projects as directed by the General Foreman. This role requires coordinating, instructing, and supporting skilled labor to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.
Duties and responsibilities
· Work with a team to coordinate and ensure the successful execution of all projects.
· Adhere to and enforce all company policies, procedures, and guiding principles.
· Enforce all company safety and environmental policies.
· Support and assist with the completion of required paperwork and reporting documentation, including but not limited to:
o Job Safety Analyses (JSA’s)
o Hot work permits
o Time sheets
o Night shift turnover sheets
o Incident reports
o Work orders
o Employee warning reports
o Testing reports
o Weekly inspection reports
· Make a weekly/daily plan and follow the plan
· Look ahead to order materials and manpower needs.
· Knowledge on the Shipbuilding and Repair Quality Standards for new construction (that are the ABS regulations for shipbuilding) preferable.
· Be a Team player, work together with other crafts to follow the construction build strategy.
· Inspect projects/vessels for any condition changes and correct unsafe conditions for entry or hot work.
· Perform continual inspections throughout projects/vessels to ensure quality standards are met.
· Organize production crews to optimize staffing levels, productivity, efficiency, and safety.
· Communicate with supervisors regarding project activities that may affect the yard, including crane lifts, equipment needs, and subcontractor coordination.
· Ensure all crane lifts are performed using proper rigging, taglines, and personnel.
· Ensure all necessary materials and equipment are available for the night shift.
· Identify and address safety concerns or work scope issues, collaborating with supervisors to develop corrective action plans.
· Communicate changes in the scope of work to supervisors and assist with planning adjustments.
· Assist supervisors with tracking budget hours and schedules.
· Assist with employee evaluations and recommend promotions, status changes, or disciplinary actions.
· Read and comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates.
· Enter confined spaces as required.
· Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights.
· Navigate uneven heights between dock and vessel and traverse uneven surfaces.
· Read and understand welding procedures, verifying welding processes are performed by qualified personnel when applicable.
Critical Demands
· Supervising the assembly and installation various parts of a vessel such as frames, modules, and decking.
· Verifying structural tolerances.
· Documenting any issues or problems with fit-up or drawings (Non-Conformance Report).
· Ability to layout erection and or connection joints.
· Ability to fabricate fixtures and jigs when required.
Working Conditions
· Work is outdoors and indoors. There is no air conditioning or heating.
· Uneven surfaces throughout the job site, with sand, limestone, and concrete outside. Numerous trip hazards throughout.
· Repetitive forward bending, rotation of the trunk, and flexing of the hips and knees.
· Repetitive kneeling and squatting.
· Lifting no greater than 50 lbs. from floor to 6 ft. work surface unassisted
Pay - Based on Experience
