What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Planning & Materials position at All Flex Solutions, Inc?
Reporting to the SVP of Operations and Supply Chain, the Director of Planning & Materials oversees all production planning and materials management, manages the team, and provides support to all All Flex sites. The Director of Planning & Materials is also responsible for providing information and insights to the executive leadership team, the Board of Directors, and Granite Partners.
In this hands-on role, the Director of Planning & Materials is responsible for the development, implementation, and sustainment of capacity and materials planning systems and standardized processes to assist manufacturing operations in optimizing schedules and meeting customer requirements and on- time delivery goals. The Director of Planning & Materials will also provide strategy and direction in the procurement of materials, equipment, supplies, and services across all operational sites and the development of a “just-in-time” materials management strategy.
Key responsibilities are summarized as follows:
PLANNING
- Manage the overall strategic and tactical production control planning, scheduling, and flow of materials while monitoring it to achieve goals and objectives for delivery dates, output quantity, volume, cost, and optimization.
- Develop scheduling methods to allocate and control resources and materials
- Establish monitoring tools and processes to identify and plan for problems with waste, inefficiencies, and inventory in production operations.
- Recommend improvements to production technology and Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop effective planning methodologies and best practices.
- Implement and track KPIs to ensure all measures pertaining to OTD and inventory management are meeting or exceeding targets.
- Help drive the SIOP process and its associated KPIs, including the inputs and outputs pertaining to operational requirements.
MATERIALS MANAGEMENT
- Develop and execute a strategic “just-in-time” materials management plan to optimize inventory levels, streamline replenishment, and ensure alignment with current and future production
- Support, develop, and enhance policies and processes for materials planning, inventory control, and supplier performance that result in the efficient and smooth flow of supplies to all sites.
- Implement cost controls and monitor KPIs such as inventory turns, supplier on-time delivery, inventory cycle count accuracy, and other key metrics.
PURCHASING
- Partner with the Director of Supply Chain to ensure effective procurement strategies, assess supplier risk, and develop contingency plans.
- Work with other functions to develop and implement a strategic Outsourcing
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT & TEAM PLANNING
- Coach, train, manage, motivate, and develop the Planning & Materials team, while actively engaging in sourcing future talent.
- Serve as a trusted partner, championing cross-functional collaboration within and outside the Planning & Materials team.
- Evaluate the staffing levels needed to fulfill business requirements, directing make buy decisions as they related to outsourcing vs. in-house provisioning.
Candidate Profile
The Director of Planning & Materials will hold an undergraduate degree in operations, business management, or a related field; an APICS, CPIM, or CCSP certification is preferred. This individual should have a minimum of seven years of formal leadership experience and 10 years of progressive responsibility with an emphasis in purchasing, production planning, and materials management utilizing ERP, MRP, CRP, RRP and SIOP to inform data-driven decisions. Experience in electronics manufacturing is a definite advantage, as is experience in a high mix, engineer-to-order manufacturing environment with stringent ISO/AS9100 requirements.
This individual should have a proven track record of strong leadership skills with experience implementing and maintaining Lean principles. He or she should also have the systems knowledge, along with a philosophy and an approach, to deliver the continuous improvement of supply chain planning and execution. Qualified candidates should have experience in project management to develop goals, tasks, resources, and timelines, along with the ability to facilitate change.
The successful candidate must have excellent business acumen, the ability to think strategically, and a continuous improvement mindset. The ability to communicate data-driven information effectively with suppliers, customers, employees, and other stakeholders across technical and executive roles is an essential requirement. Additionally, this individual must have the capacity to collaborate with All Flex Solutions and Granite Partners leaders, taking advantage of resources throughout the organization and becoming an integral part of the team.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive base salary in the $130,000 to $160,000 range, based on experience and qualifications, along with an annual bonus and the opportunity to participate in long-term incentives, including a stock appreciation rights (SARs) program.
