What are the responsibilities and job description for the CALIFORNIA STATE DIRECTOR position at All Hands and Hearts Smart Response, Inc.?
A versatile position within a dynamic nonprofit that provides community-inspired, volunteer-powered disaster relief. The California State Director is responsible for developing a strategic review of All Hands and Hearts ability to develop and implement relief operations in California. This role will coordinate across all internal stakeholders; specifically working with the Development team to identify potential grants and partners, with Volunteer and Alumni Relationship to identify local volunteer resources, with Operations to review capacity and deliverables and with Marketing to review the target audience in California.

Essential Functions
- Create a strategic review of AHAH’s potential operations within California, specifically developing a business plan and considerations for both short-term (up to one year) and long-term (up to 5 years)., working closely with the Chief of Operations to develop plans for response and recovery efforts in California
- Oversee response and recovery efforts in the State of California, including current Los Angeles fire response.
- Manages budgets associated with these efforts, coordinates with the Finance team to track spending, prepare reports and forecast budgets.
- Work closely with the Volunteer Operations team to ensure volunteer engagement and support.
- Collaborates with Marketing and Development to ensure content from California is presented to current and prospective donors.
- Identifies new partnerships and strategic opportunities to increase impact in California
- Closely follows any potential new disasters in California, including wildfires, floods, earthquakes and prepares response efforts with the Chief Operating Officer.
Position Requirements
- Education Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, required with preference given to management focus of studies.
- Related Experience 5 years experience working in a disaster response context. 3 years of experience in a role with project management responsibilities, including budget tracking and reporting. 3 years of managing teams and 2 years managing a team in a virtual environment with outstanding leadership and delegation skills..
- Special Competencies/Certifications The individual needs to be well organized and have a flexible approach to managing multiple tasks and prioritizing them appropriately. The individual is able to manage a large workload and perform in a fast-paced environment. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be competent in working with Google Workspace, particularly Google Docs and Google Sheets; and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of project management tools preferred. Valid driver's license required.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- This position is based in California.
- This position requires regular travel (same-day or multi-day depending on need) to response locations throughout the state.

Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation Typical starting salary is $75,000 - $85,000 / annually, based on skills and experience.
