Position Overview:

This position functions primarily out of The PARC at 610 ES 11th Street, Abilene, TX 79602.
Animal Care Responsibilities:
- Assess animals’ appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease, discontent and take necessary action as appropriate.
- Administer vaccines, microchips, and medications and perform minor testing as needed.
- Input data into Shelterluv (software management system).
- Provide excellent customer service for citizens and partnering vet clinics in person, via email, and over the telephone.
- Ensure that work areas are swept, mopped, dusted and routinely cleaned; that waste is collected and properly removed.
- Ensure that all animal areas are cleaned and sanitized regularly to prevent disease spread.
- Perform other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Implement and ensure adherence to systems, policies and procedures and identify systems and processes that are ineffective and determine needed policy and operational changes, find solutions and implement new strategies.
- Ensure all records are complete and correct in ShelterLuv, including but not limited to animal treatments and medical care, location, attachments, photo and pertinent memos.
- Ensure accurate records and information are gathered from the public and documented.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in an animal care setting, with responsibilities such as medical assessment, holding, dosing medications, administering medications, vaccinating, microchipping, kennel cleanliness, sanitation, loading, and unloading from cages and/or vehicles is preferred.
- Animal handling experience including the ability to correctly assess temperament and adjust handling strategy to avoid injury to either self, animals or other team members and properly utilize equipment such as control pole, lead rope, etc.
- General knowledge of animal health and shelter practices such as common diseases and means of transmission, cleanliness standards and best practices.
- A passion for and a deep commitment to All Kind’s mission, animal welfare and for helping community members.
- Certification as a Euthanasia Technician for the State of Texas is required within 6 months of employment.
- A high school diploma or a GED is required.
- A valid Texas driver’s license is required. Maintaining a satisfactory driving record is an ongoing condition of employment.
- Proficient with common computer software, experience with ShelterLuv a plus.
Work Environment and Physical Qualifications:
- Possible exposure to zoonotic diseases, bites, scratches, loud noises, animal waste, kennel cleaners and disinfectants, animal bedding, and dishes. Allergic conditions which would be aggravated when handling or working near/with felines may be a disqualification.
- Exposure to animal noise, unpleasant odors, cold, heat, outdoors, vibration and chemicals.
- Walking and/or standing for extended periods of time, often on wet surfaces. Ability to work in a bent over or squatting position.
Compensation and Benefits:This position starts at $17/hour. All Full-time associates are eligible for Health Insurance, PTO, Life Insurance and eligibility to participate in a 401k plan with potential employer contributions
Reporting Relationships: This position directly reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with canine and feline technicians, veterinary staff and Admissions Counselor.
