The Pre-Analytical Assistant provides support to the Technical Operations Department by performing various tasks such as sorting, racking, centrifugation, and specimen storage. The role requires an understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering, which involves researching test order information on translation tables, computer systems, and directories of services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify problems with specimen types, missing information, and other issues related to sorting, racking, centrifugation, delivery, and storage of specimens.
- Resolve or forward information in support of timely problem resolution.
- Develop an understanding of how all functions in Tech Ops and Specimen Processing work together and impact technical departments and result quality.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
- Previous experience in a production environment preferred.
- Familiarity with mainframe computer operating systems preferred.
- Minimal data entry skills required.
Desirable Skills:
- Good organizational skills.
- Understanding of specimen types related to test(s) ordered.
- Clinical department requirements regarding specimen types and quantity needed for each test.
- Understanding of compliance regulations related to test ordering.
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change and pursue continuous improvement.
