Job Description
- Post-operative nurses provide intensive care to patients as they awaken from anesthesia after a surgical procedure.
- Responsible for all aspects of patient care after they've had surgery
- Monitor vital signs, administer medication for pain and nausea, update and educate the family, and transfer to the inpatient unit or discharge depending on the acuity of the patient.
- Monitor surgical site itself for potential bleeding or other pathological indications
- Log all findings in patient files
- Answer patient questions and ensure patient comfort
- Monitor patients for condition changes, reporting any changes to physician
- Perform intervention duties during post-operative emergencies
