As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Controller to join our leadership team and play a pivotal role in driving financial excellence.
Position Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Controller to oversee financial operations, reporting, and compliance while supporting strategic initiatives. This role will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and executive leadership to enhance financial efficiency and operational effectiveness across the organization. The Controller will also collaborate with the Accounting Manager to ensure accurate financial transactions and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Lead and oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
- Oversee budgeting and forecasting, providing strategic financial insights.
- Maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and financial regulations.
- Manage cash flow, monitor financial risks, and oversee banking relationships.
- Ensure compliance with multi-state sales and use tax regulations.
- Coordinate and manage external audits and tax filings.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to improve efficiency.
Operational & Strategic Support:
- Collaborate with department managers to improve financial performance and cost management.
- Provide analysis on job costing, pricing strategies, and profitability.
- Assist in evaluating capital investments, fleet acquisitions, and equipment purchases.
- Identify and implement process improvements for enhanced financial reporting.
Leadership & Compliance:
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering professional development.
- Stay up to date with financial regulations, industry trends, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Seven or more years of accounting experience (preferably in landscaping, construction, or service industries).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (CPA or CMA preferred).
- Three or more years of tax preparation experience in a mid-to-large-sized company.
- Three or more years managing third-party GAAP financial audits.
- Experience with multi-state sales and use tax reporting.
Skills & Software Proficiency:
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks or similar).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
