Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Garden Center General Manager to lead all aspects of our retail garden center operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong background in retail, exceptional organizational skills, and a drive for delivering excellent customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, supervise, and develop all staff, including department leads, production teams, and retail associates.
Manage employee scheduling, performance evaluations, and training programs.
Foster a positive team culture through mentorship, clear communication, and accountability.
Operations & Sales Management
Oversee daily operations, ensuring smooth workflow and high service standards.
Manage vendor relationships and oversee purchasing, inventory, and pricing.
Track KPIs and analyze sales performance to meet and exceed revenue goals.
Ensure effective merchandising and a clean, inviting store layout.
Event Planning & Marketing
Plan and execute seasonal events, workshops, and promotions.
Collaborate with marketing to develop social media campaigns, email outreach, and in-store displays.
Represent the company at community and networking events.
Customer Experience
Lead by example in delivering outstanding customer service.
Address customer concerns and feedback with professionalism and urgency.
Ensure staff are knowledgeable and equipped to provide expert advice.
Financial & Strategic Planning
Develop and manage the garden center’s budget, ensuring financial targets are met.
Work with leadership to define strategic goals and growth initiatives.
Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability.
Facility & Product Management
Oversee facility maintenance and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
Ensure proper care, storage, and presentation of merchandise.
Qualifications
5 years of retail management experience, preferably in a garden center or related field.
Degree in Business Management, Horticulture, or equivalent experience.
Proven leadership and team development skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
Proficiency in POS systems, Microsoft Office, and inventory software.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in outdoor environments.
Passion for horticulture and providing an exceptional customer experience.
Working Conditions
Primarily outdoor retail environment with physical activity including lifting, bending, and extended standing.
