Job Description: Phlebotomist
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing venipuncture and specimen collection, ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the process. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, as well as excellent patient service skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform blood and specimen collection and processing, similar to other phlebotomists with comparable experience.
- Provide comprehensive phlebotomy services.
- Ensure timely preparation of reports and documentation for patient care and procedures.
- Follow safety protocols and infection control procedures at all times.
- Perform quality checks and maintain lab equipment.
- Adhere to Joint Commission and Department of Veterans Affairs policies.
- Assist patients with in-processing, including paperwork review and guidance.
- Perform blood draws (venipuncture and finger sticks) and other tests as required.
- Collect blood samples using appropriate techniques and verify patient identification.
- Collect and process urine samples, including timed collections, and instruct patients accordingly.
- Enter specimen details into the system (order number, collection time, label placement).
- Ensure all required tests are collected and documented.
- Transport collected samples to the appropriate departments on time.
- Maintain a clean and organized phlebotomy and accessioning area.
- Rotate supplies regularly and discard expired items.
- Conduct periodic inventories of phlebotomy and related supplies.
- Restock supplies and notify management of low inventory levels.
- Prepare specimens for transport to other facilities, following specific packaging instructions (e.g., refrigeration, centrifugation).
- Utilize computers for documentation and specimen tracking, following assigned system procedures.
Required Skills:
- Attention to detail and ability to follow protocols.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to interact with patients and staff in a friendly, professional manner.
- Basic computer proficiency
- PCT Certification
HOURS OF OPERATION:
- 730 am – 330 pm M-F excluding federal holidays at the Greenville location
- 7 days a week multiple shifts including federal holidays at the Columbia location
- I have asked if they want a certain number of workers per location, waiting for reply
Health Screenings – Vaccinations Required
- MMR vaccine or titer
- Hep B vaccine or titer
- Varicella vaccine or titer
- TB skin test, bloodwork, or Chest X-ray
- Flu shot
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- No weekends
Experience:
- Phlebotomy: 2 years (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (Required)
