What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School English Teacher position at All Saints Academy?
All Saints Academy, a small Catholic preschool through grade 8 school located in Webster, MA is seeking a licensed/certified middle school English teacher who possesses a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English or Education, and a Massachusetts professional license with an appropriate endorsement to teach Language Arts. The qualified candidate would be responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing that are fundamental to effective communication and literate citizenship; that develop an appreciation of good literature of all types; that motivates students to read widely for information and recreation; that develops standards for critical judgement of written and oral communication transmitted by mass media; and that discovers and develops special talents of students in the field of English to prepare each student to meet the rigors of high school and beyond. Hours are 7:30AM -3:00PM, M-F.
Essential duties include:
•Teaches content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, journalism to middle school students, utilizing curriculum designated by All Saints Academy
•Adapts English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students
•Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the school’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with diocesan standards
•Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroup of students
•Evaluates academic and social growth of students and their progress in meeting the course standards for English skills
•Administers testing in accordance with school testing practices, including standardized tests (MAP)
•Prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary
•Encourages students to think independently and express original ideas
•Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment, conducive to learning and appropriate for student needs
•Communicates effectively and often with parents and administration regarding student progress
•Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities, including field students and other special events
•Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
•Utilizes technology effectively in the curriculum, administrative tasks, and communication
•Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, including professional dress
•Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school
Other duties:
•Maintains professional competence by attending staff and curriculum development programs and other professional activities
•Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including special events, student clubs and extra-curricular activities
•Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers
•Performs any other related duties as assigned by the administration
