Overview

 

We are seeking a dedicated Guidance Counselor to join our team. The mission of the guidance counselor and program at Scott

County Catholic Schools is to serve students, parents, and staff with the support needed for students to successfully develop their God-given gifts and talents in the spiritual, academic, physical, moral, emotional, and social domains of life.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

A. Essential Tasks

1. Provide individual counseling opportunities for all assigned students.

2. Use results of standardized tests in planning programs to meet the needs of individual students.

3. Make use of the services of psychologists, social workers, and other community resources in better understanding the needs of individual students.

4. Provide small group counseling opportunities for students with mutual interests and concerns.

5. Inform the local public of the activities of the secondary guidance program.

6. Provide opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge, attitudes, and interpersonal skills to help them understand and respect self and others.

7. Help students make decisions, set goals, and take necessary action to achieve goals.

8. Provide opportunities for students to acquire emotional and physical coping skills that will result in total well-being.

9. Provide classroom and individual instruction on a regular basis in grades K-8 including but not limited to: social emotional curriculum, friendship, bully prevention, study and organizational skills.

 

B. Relationships with Parents

1. Recognize responsibility to periodically inform parents of their child’s progress in school.

2. Conduct meaningful parent conferences.

3. Work cooperatively with parents for optimal student growth.

4. Make parents feel welcome at school when they seek understanding of the school program and its relationship to their students.

5. Include parents in student case conferences involving school and community agency personnel.

 

C. Professional Preparation and Growth

1. Indicate evidence of competence and continued growth in areas of responsibility.

2. Be familiar with current trends in education and be willing to try new methods.

3. Attend in services and other professional training in keeping with his/her profession.

4. Utilize the services of other professional personnel in order to ensure continued professional growth.

5. Exhibit a professional commitment to counseling.

 

D. Interpersonal Relations

1. Communicate and interact effectively with students, parents, staff members, and others involved with counseling program.

2. Display compatibility and rapport with staff.

 

E. School Guidance Curriculum and Support of Overall School Curriculum

1. Classroom instruction.

2. Interdisciplinary curriculum.

3. Learning styles, study skills, social skills, safety, etc.

4. Career exploration.

5. Coordination of parent/family workshops, instruction, and outreach, including tip sheets, newsletters, brochures, “Mommies and Me,” young mothers’ support group, Parent University, and/or the like.

6. Gospel Values/School Climate Committee, modified PBIS coordination.

 

F. Individual Student Planning

1. Transitions to Scott County Catholic Schools.

2. Transitions to new grade levels, including high school plans.

3. To participate, as needed, with IEP, 504s, and other action plans for individuals/similar students of high or low-performing students in consultation with classroom and resource teachers.

 

G. Responsive Services (Intentional, Referral, and Crisis)

1. Intentional individual or small group.

2. Students “at risk” in a variety of ways.

a. MTSS model for SEB

3. Referrals

4. Crisis

5. Mediation and conflict resolution.

6. Consultation

7. Coordination of activities/services with AEA and outside agencies.

 

H. System Support

1. Support for guidance program (reports, guidance PR, “prep time”).

2. Support for school operations (testing, scheduling, consultation, accommodations).

3. Support for school climate and culture.

4. Collaboration with Scott County Catholic school counselors.

 

I. Other Professional Duties

1. The student support specialist, while not regularly scheduled with these additional duties, should make him/herself available during times such as before and after school, recess, homeroom, and lunch to meet with, establish relationships with, and/or otherwise observe students.

 

J. Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

Requirements
A. School Counselor license from the BOEE, or;

B. School Social Worker license from the BOEE, or;

C. Other counselor/social worker license and background working with youth, or;

D. Teaching license recognized by the BOEE or, at a minimum, a BOEE substitute authorization.

E. Knowledge and appreciation of adolescent psychology and development

F. Knowledge and appreciation of therapy and treatment options for various student mental health challenges

G. Knowledge and appreciation of the effects of the environment on the SEB well-being of students

Salary : $36,500
