JOB TITLE: Dental Assistant (**$500 Sign On Bonus**)
REPORTS TO: Providers and management team
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for, but not limited to, working with an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, obtaining patient information, assisting provider, providing patient instruction, performing x-rays, and maintaining appropriate provider/staff communications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Setting up and preparing for surgery before the start of each appointment and ensuring correct equipment is available
- Obtaining relevant patient information (such as physical data)
- Performing high quality assistant care for patients always ensuring the care and welfare of patients in a friendly, helpful and courteous manner
- Safe and effective assisting of provider during dental procedures
- Producing quality diagnostic images for interpretation
- Monitoring patients recovering from general anesthesia and react appropriately to changes in patient response
- Complete laboratory request forms, keep records of work sent, received and ensure that all necessary laboratory work is returned and read for each appointment
- Performing procedures as directed such as but not limited to: completing appropriate paperwork associated with the treatment of the patient, accurately entering clinical notes into electronic patient charts
- Establish and maintain effecting working relationship with patients and medical staff
- Clean and decontaminate instruments, equipment, and clinical areas in accordance to infection control procedures and manufacturer’s instructions and ensure safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste
- Using all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations ensuring that they are maintained regularly, in good working order and tested with results recorded when necessary
- Stocking rooms and notifying appropriate personnel of inventory and supply needs
- Advise patients regarding dental care prevention
- Scheduling appointments
- Liaise with reception to ensure smooth patient communications during transfers
- Attend and participate in practice meetings
- Assist in keeping clean the surfaces, sinks, floors of the surgeries and common areas of the practice reception, office, staff room and toilets
- Perform other duties as assigned
NONESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Escorting patients to exam room
- Assisting at reception and performing other clerical duties if required by the management team
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of OSHA and CDC requirements and the ability to practice them in accordance with their standards
- Ability to use electronic medical records proficiently
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential patient records
- Communicate in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Ability to multi-task in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Ability to problem solve adapt to patient volume changes and unanticipated or emergency situations.
- Ability to adopt and integrate the practices purpose and values, behavioral philosophy, and quality commitment into all daily activities and attitudes
- Ability and knowledge to perform job duties in competent manner to promote quality patient care and customer satisfaction while promoting safety and cost efficiency at the practice
- Ability to maintain friendly, productive working relationships with all members of the dental team
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to remain in a standing position over 50% of the day
- Must be able to position self to bend or kneel to accommodate young patients
- Occasionally moving boxes weighing up to 30 pounds
- Exposed to loud noises
- Exposed to OSHA regulated chemicals and biohazards
LICENSING
- CPR certification
- X-Ray certification
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one (1) year experience in dental or clinical office setting. 2 years of chairside experience preferred.
- Ability to type at least 35 words per minute
OTHER:
- This position may not exceed 40 hours each work week (Monday – Friday)
- Bilingual abilities are a plus!
