Job Title : Quality Inspector I, II, III

Job Function : Rebuild / Production

Reports To : Quality Engineering & Continuous Improvement Manager

Summary

With close or minimum supervision, performs receiving, in-process, and final inspections on components, sub-assemblies and finished goods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Employee must be able to perform these essential functions of the position satisfactorily and, if requested, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job, absent undue hardship.

  • Performs receiving inspections on incoming materials prior to placement in stock.
  • Identifies and controls non-conforming product and ensures items are contained to prevent inadvertent use and / or shipment.
  • Documents opportunities for improvements and problems using the Continuous Improvement Program.
  • May be assigned to Problem Solving or Continuous improvement Teams.
  • Performs in-process and final inspections and documents findings.
  • Verifies non-conforming items are corrected prior to release for shipment.
  • Documents inspection results and certifies products prior to release for shipment.
  • In accordance with procedures, cleans and prepares units for next operation.
  • Complies with all safety and hazardous material procedures, wears protective equipment as required to meet or exceed OSHA, ISO-9001 and all company requirements and / or standards.
  • May provide training to other employee’s inspection and / or test procedures.
  • Maintains all aspects of workplace cleanliness and organization on a daily basis.
  • Maintains accurate records.
  • Inspects, labels and returns both select incoming and manufactured parts.
  • May be required to participate in Small Group Improvement Activity Teams, daily Team Meetings and Team Exercise sessions.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with the requirements of the company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System (when required).

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, stoop, and kneel on a regular basis.
  • Regular manual dexterity / coordination : hand / eye movements, motor control.
  • Regular visual effort : concentrated reading of documentation or close viewing of computer displays.
  • Ability to work in a factory environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Able to push, pull and lift up to 50lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Potential Hazards

  • Employee may be exposed to hazardous substances including a variety of petroleum- based products, cleaning solvents, etc. on a regular basis.
  • Employee may be exposed to sharp (cutting) tools on a regular basis.

  • Safety and Security – Follow safety policies / plans created by the company; utilize tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  • Required Education / Experience / Skills

  • High School graduate, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years welding experience and / or quality control experience in a manufacturing / fabrication environment.
  • Use of inspection tools to include rulers, tape measures, precision squares, micrometers, calipers, tools and gauges, both analog and digital.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings that can be interpreted for developing inspection plans or first article inspections.
  • Required to drive forklift trucks and operate overhead cranes.
  • Preferred Education / Experience / Skills

  • Proven experience as a welder.
  • Ability to meet deadlines; to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, solve problems, and complete tasks independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with supervisors, members of management, vendors, and other employees.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and their applications, including metric system.
  • Certifications, Licensees or Registrations Required / Preferred

  • Welding / Forklift / Overhead Crane.
