Job Summary:
A Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides essential support and care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. DSPs assist with daily living activities, promote independence, and ensure a safe and supportive environment for those they serve.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support individuals with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation
- Encourage and assist with independent living skills and personal growth
- Administer medications as prescribed (if certified)
- Document and report on individual progress and any changes in behavior or health
- Provide transportation to appointments, community activities, and events
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment
- Follow all safety and health protocols, including emergency procedures
- Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and other team members
- Advocate for the rights, choices, and dignity of the individuals served
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (preferred)
- Experience in caregiving or working with individuals with disabilities (preferred)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate, patient, and dependable
- Ability to lift and assist individuals as needed
- Willingness to undergo background checks and training
Work Schedule:
Full-time or part-time; shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment:
Residential homes, day programs, or community-based settings.
