Education, Experience, And Specialized Skills
This position will typically have periods of light to medium work. This position may require heavy work at times, lifting patients (student athletes). Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. This position requires physical effort while participating with student-athletes in practice, with lifting team equipment and supplies, and with demonstrating/ supervising exercise equipment (including weights). Basic Statement of Responsibilities
This Position Is Responsible For The Following Areas
- risk management and the prevention of athletic injuries; recognition, evaluation, and assessment of athletic injuries; immediate care and first aid of injuries; treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries; health care administration; and professional development and responsibility. This position is responsible for team coverage and the daily operation of the athletic training facilities. Evening, night and weekend work required. This position will adhere to the College’s, state and federal regulations of confidential information.
- Responsible for athletic care pertaining to Allegany camps, clinics and tournaments.

Education, Experience, And Specialized Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or other related field required.
- Certification from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) required.
- *Recent graduates will be required to have a Master's degree, as program/certification requirements have changed.
- Must possess current certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED.
- Instructor certification preferred in American Heart Association BLS CPR.
- Responsible for making decisions on all injuries and illnesses as follows:
- Obtain physical examinations and medical histories to identify any predisposing injuries and illnesses, and the need for physical intervention programs.
- Make responsible decisions as to what actions will be followed for all athletic injuries and illnesses.
- Responsible for the health and safety of all non-Allegany athletes from visiting teams, done with limited knowledge of any predisposing injuries or conditions for these athletes.
- Assume responsibility for administering appropriate first aid, for the management of acute injury, and for the recognition and evaluation of potentially serious or life-threatening injuries including the following:
- Maintain Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or National Safety Council.
- Maintain First Aid certification by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or National Safety Council.
- Determine when to activate the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) as a part of Allegany’s emergency action plan.
- Interprets the role of the certified athletic trainer and promotes athletic training as a professional discipline.
- Monitors environmental conditions to ensure safety.
- Selects and implements the use of proper protective equipment, as well as orthopedic devices and equipment.
- Game preparation for all athletes, including visiting teams, that include treatments, stretching, and taping.
- Responsible for event management which includes proper fluid intake and environmental emergency prevention.
- Evaluate all incoming athletes for predisposing conditions and then design and implement rehabilitation and reconditioning plan.
- Coordinates the accident insurance for the athletes. Processes insurance claim forms, record keeping, etc.
- Ensures proper usage of emergency protocols as determined by Allegany’s emergency action plan.
- Plans and Implements a comprehensive program of prevention, recognition, evaluation and care of athletic injuries. Identifies all injury and illness risk factors associated with participation in competitive athletics.
- Responsible for making decisions on all injuries and illnesses through a thorough initial evaluation for activating EMS, providing appropriate treatment or referring to a physician.
- Works directly with all coaches in the administration of their individual programs such as daily injury reports, musculoskeletal examinations, and safety and equipment recommendations.
- Participate in Athletics and Physical Education department assessment and data collection.
- Work approximately 10 hours per week in Fitness Center as needed.
- Completes yearly inventory of all athletic training supplies and equipment and provides report to supervisor.
- Promotes health care information, advises and counsels athletes, parents, and coaches on matters pertaining to the physical, psychological, and emotional health and well-being of the competitive athlete and not to exceed the defined scope of his/her professional certifications and responsibilities.
- Occasional travel with the team will be expected and will be evaluated at the beginning of each team’s season.
- Oversees athletic training needs of all Allegany College of Maryland sports camps and clinics.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by Director of Athletics.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
- Computer/technological skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people with various backgrounds, education levels and cultural differences.
- Ability to have positive communication with the students, staff, faculty, alumni and community.
- Outstanding skills related to the evaluation and treatment of injuries is essential; must possess ability to maintain confidentiality; must possess current first aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Experience communicating through social media outlets.
- Basic math skills required.
