Advertising for this position is to fill a current opening as well as establish an eligibility list for the purpose of filling potential future openings.
SUMMARY:
This is entry-level emergency communications work. An employee in this class answers 911 calls, compiles the information, determines the proper response, and dispatches fire/ambulance companies and/or police agencies. This employee will be trained in police, fire, and EMS dispatch.
Testing and interviews for this title will establish a list of eligibles that will be used to fill anticipated vacancies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduate with two years radio or related communications experience. Prior experience as a provider of fire, ambulance, or police service. Possession of a valid Driver's License and eligibility for coverage under the County’s motor vehicle insurance policy. Must be able to pass criminal background check for CJIS certification. (A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of spelling, geography of the district and subdivisions served, and the location of emergency facilities. Skill in map reading and oral communications required. Must have proficient typing and computer skills. Ability to enunciate properly, to have sufficient aural acuity to hear the normally spoken word; to calm others and remain calm under stressful situations; to accept responsibility for, and have the ability to make quick decisions involving a large amount of equipment and manpower during initial alert. SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a non-exempt Bargaining Unit position with a wage rate of $19.62 per hour and complete County benefits package including life and health insurance, paid leave, and pension.
