What are the responsibilities and job description for the Driver position at Allegany County HRDC?
GENERAL SCOPE:
Under the supervision of the Senior Center Manager, and in concert with HRDC Policies and Procedures and program guidelines, provides safe, convenient transportation for senior citizens to meal sites and other activities which are part of the Senior Programs; is responsible for the safety and upkeep of vehicles; delivers meals to home delivered customers; uses van only for authorized business; aids, along with all Center staff, in creating a positive, supportive environment for customers; maintains a positive, professional attitude at all times; and maintains customer confidentiality at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED.
2. Must be able to pass CPR and First Aid within agency designated time frame.
- Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check and drug screen within timeframe established by the program.
4. Must take HIPAA training.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Must have the physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to drive in inclement weather.
- Must possess basic communication skills and demonstrate reading and writing ability.
- Must be able to work with respective population, with respect and patience.
- Pass a DOT physical.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Transports customers to and from meal sites when necessary.
2. Provide assistance to customers’ needs when necessary.
3. Transports meals to those Centers that have the meal site within the Center, in all types of weather.
4. Consults with Senior Center Manager in inclement weather to determine if road conditions are safe.
5. Checks customer/meal cancellations each day.
6. Designs, with Senior Center Manager, daily vehicle route and schedule, follows the established route to be sure no customer is missed, updates itinerary periodically with Senior Center Manager so that relief driver will be able to follow schedule.
7. Delivers meals to home delivered customers.
8. Follows established maintenance procedures to be sure vehicle is properly maintained. Notifies Senior Center Manager, by report, when maintenance/repair is required.
9. Reports all vehicle accidents, mechanical hazards and defects immediately to the Senior Center Manager.
10. Makes authorized gasoline purchases and is responsible for submitting required reports to Senior Center Manager on a weekly basis.
11. Obeys traffic laws including adhering to passenger limits to vehicle.
12. Attends training and education as required.
13. Returns vehicle to designated location and assures that it is locked securely. Keeps vehicle neat and clean, both inside and out.
14. Assures the vehicle has necessary information including emergency information on customers if required by program.
15. Assists in orienting substitutes and newly hired drivers on established routes.
16. Accurately completes reports in a timely manner.
17. Assist with Center chores when needed.
18. Ensures passenger safety while en route, loading and unloading.
19. Responsible for following established fiscal procedures for home delivered meals and transportation, including but not limited to, turning over locked donation box to Senior Center Manager, returning locked donation box to vehicle, giving receipts for donations, etc.
20. Notifies Senior Center Manager of undeliverable meals.
21. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
22. In the event of a medical emergency, proceed to the nearest phone, dial 911, and provide any and all information necessary to facilitate access to the at-risk party.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work hours are from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Seven hours per day, five days per week with one hour off (unpaid) daily for lunch. This is a union position.
