Infant Teacher Assistant
Duties:
POSITION SUMMARY:
To assist the Lead teacher in providing a warm, nurturing, safe, and loving environment in which children can develop physically, emotionally, academically and socially.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Assisting teachers with daily activities as needed.
Assisting with mealtime activities of the group to include breakfast, lunch and snacks. The Assistant should eat lunch with the children.
Actively participating in all activities.
Working with a small group of children under supervision of the lead teacher.
Supervising play – structured or unstructured.
Caring for children’s physical needs.
Assisting the staff with, or assuming other duties as required for the operation of the child care program.
Maintaining a safe / clean environment, assisting with basic cleaning duties.
Attending parent – child events as required.
Demonstrating knowledge of child development and effective discipline techniques.
Demonstrating a positive attitude towards parents, children and co-workers.
Ability to create a loving and caring atmosphere within the YMCA program.
Treat each child with dignity and respect. Enhance the child’s self–concept through acceptance and a positive attitude.
Being responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including understanding and being able to implement emergency procedures as necessary.
Maintain visual and auditory supervision of the child at all times to ensure their safety in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips.
Administer first aid for minor accidents and complete an Accident Report.
Being committed to regular work attendance.
Recording activities or maintaining daily logs as needed.
Preventing, identifying and reacting properly to child abuse situations.
Attends training, in-service seminars and staff meetings.
Must achieve 24 points of approved training within the fiscal year.
Willing to accept and follow directions.
Fulfill any other duties assigned by the Administrator, Site Coordinator or Lead Teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have understanding of Infant growth and development to provide a warm, caring, safe and nurturing environment in which the infant can develop physically, emotionally, intellectually, and socially.
Must be at least 16 years of age
- Within 30 days of employment must possess a valid CPR and First Aid card verifying successful completion of CPR and First Aid training
- Within 30 days of employment must understand and provide a signed YMCA Child Abuse Code of Conduct.
- Before 1st day of employment a clean criminal record check must be on file at the early learning site.
- Before 1st day of employment must have a current TB free report
- Within 21 days of employment must have
- Signed sworn disclosure statement
- Consent to a CANIS report
Within 6 months of employment must have participated in a staff training plan (of at least 10 hours) which will reflect care and education practices that are age and stage appropriate for children.
- Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities for preschool children
- Foster a positive and nurturing learning environment
- Provide guidance and support to students in their social, emotional, and cognitive development
- Manage classroom behavior and promote positive discipline techniques
- Collaborate with parents and caregivers to ensure the well-being and progress of each child
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to parents
