OUR POSITION

The primary role of the Vice President, Marketing is to increase awareness of the Pittsburgh region's assets for businesses and talent globally. The position is responsible for the development of marketing strategies and plans to support the organization's economic development program and goals.

The ideal candidate will have marketing/communications experience at a senior level (preferably both B2B and B2C), a background that includes the execution of advertising and collateral materials, and a current understanding of media planning and buying. They will have experience conceiving, writing, and executing integrated marketing/communications plans.

An ability and interest in coaching and managing others, developing creative approaches to problem-solving, and being a team player – understanding the give-and-take of various roles and teams – will be key to success in this role.

A proactive approach and readiness to dive into the work when needed are essential qualities.

Reports to the Chief of Communications and Marketing Officer.



  • Provide strategic direction and oversee the development of content across all brand channels, including websites, blogs, bulk email, collateral, presentations, reports, social media, paid media, programs, and events, and earned media.
  • Develop, oversee execution, and drive the success of digital marketing efforts across channels – increasing awareness, engagement, and conversion.
  • Work in partnership with the organization's economic development team to develop marketing campaigns, RFIs, and strategies to reach business investment audiences in target sectors and geographies with the goal of generating leads for the economic development team to pursue.
  • Collaborate with the talent team to brand the region and support employer efforts to attract and retain talent, with a focus on college students and early-to-mid-career professional talent.
  • Partner with the public and media relations lead to develop PR strategies and pitches, with a focus on securing message coverage in top-tier national outlets and key industry and trade publications.
  • Actively seek opportunities to collaborate with partners in the private, public and non-profit sectors as well as academia to create impactful marketing opportunities that raise the profile of the region with target audiences.
  • Establish metrics and report regularly on progress.
  • Manage agency and vendor relationships.
  • Stay abreast of trends and innovations in economic development marketing and keep the team inspired, in the know and positioned to drive results.
  • Provide stewardship of the Pittsburgh Region. Next is Now. and Belong. Become. Be. brands. Ensure compliance with writing, graphic and brand standards across organizational materials and events.
  • Contribute to the efficiency of the organization by performing other duties and participating in special projects, as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor's degree


Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

  • 10 years' experience in marketing and / or public relations
  • Digital/social media marketing experience required
  • Experience in economic development preferred
  • B2B and B2C marketing experience preferred
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to inspire others and work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects, prioritize and adjust quickly to changes
  • Willingness to travel regionally, domestically, and internationally as needed
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Experience with Looker Studio, G4, WordPress, Sprout Social and Canva preferred
