Overview: Allegheny West Eye Care is seeking a full time, detail-oriented, energetic, friendly, and customer-focused Office Assistant to join our busy, family-owned practice. The ideal candidate will have a passion for eye care and assisting patients with their eye care needs.
Duties:
- Will assist as an Ophthalmic Technician, Dispensing Optician, and Medical Assistant
- Assist customers in selecting eyewear that suits their style and prescription needs
- Educate patients on proper eyewear care and usage
- Perform preliminary tests on patients including case history, visual acuity, depth perception, color perception, etc.
- Support the optometrist/ophthalmologist in conducting eye examinations, other clinical procedures, and specialized testing
- Handle administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, maintaining patient records, etc.
- Cover absent positions throughout the office
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the optical area, tech station, and other areas as needed
Skills:
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality
- Understanding of medical terminology, optometry, ophthalmology, and optical procedures
- Proficiency in handling medical records accurately
- Capability to provide excellent customer service, compassion, and empathy towards patients
- Basic understanding of retail math for transactions
- Ability to operate in a calm, positive, and friendly attitude in a high paced work environment

Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed (One Saturday a month being a 4 hour shift)
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Required)
- Certification a plus, but NOT mandatory
- Experience NOTT required, we are willing the train the right candidate!
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
