Allegria Village, a senior-living community in Dearborn, is currently hiring for a part-time Activities Assistant in our Independent Living Community.
Overview: The Activities Assistant helps to provide group and individual activities for the residents. Duties will involve personal contact with a varying resident
population and a varied work schedule that may include some weekends, evenings, and holiday. Tasks will involve record keeping, attention to the environment, use of supplies and equipment, and maintenance of activity storage areas.

Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with activities as directed by the Life Enrichment Director and in accordance with each resident’s plan of care
- Be sure area to be used for activity is free
- Set areas up as needed for the type of activity planned
- Remind nursing staff of activities scheduled and residents who desire to participate
- Assist with transport of residents to and from the activity area
- Follow the instructions for the activity as directed
- Observe individual resident participation and responses during the activity
- Notify nursing of resident behaviors which may indicate medical problems
- Do record keeping or documentation tasks
- Help maintain a pleasant and cheerful nursing home environment
- Help with putting up, taking down, and storing seasonal decorations
- Help care for plants
- Assist residents to display calendars, pictures, cards, or other memories in their rooms
- Participate in and promote staff participation in facility-wide special activities such as dress-up days and special observances.
- Attend mandatory facility in-services
- Attend activity department in services or workshops as directed by the Life Enrichment
- Continue the activity program in the absence of the Life Enrichment Director
- Plan, coordinator, and execute core programs, experiences, events, activities, and services to excite, engage, and meet the needs and interests of the community
- Develop creative, engaging programs, experiences, events, and activities that excite and inspire high levels of community involvement, including entertainment, workshops, lectures, classes, and seminars.
- Research and identify new programs, experiences, events, activities, and services
- Bring new and existing residents together, develop strong relationships, discover residents’ personal interests, talents, skills, and aspirations, and inspire residents to take active and vital roles in leadership, participation and support of programs, experiences, activities and services.
- Connect and network with outside resources and organizations to bring to in-site programming and services to Allegria.
- Provide organizational coordination and support for all activities and events.
- Track participation in programming and events when practical
- Create flyers for programs, events, activities, and services. Write brief articles for community bulletins newsletters, resident portal, and all communication resources as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with Activities in a senior population
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Pleasant personality
- Respect for authority
- Able to work independently and follow scheduled plans
- Respect for the rights of the residents including the right to privacy and the right to make choices
- Maintains composure in stressful situations
- Works well with others
Education/Certification:
- Associates degree helpful not required
- High school diploma or GED required
