What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Laboratory Associate/Scientist position at Allele Diagnostics?
Allele Diagnostics is a CAP-accredited diagnostic genetics company located in Spokane, WA. We are seeking to add a Clinical Laboratory Associate to our scientific team. The role of the CLA is to perform tests that require a complex network of steps and variables, independent judgment and interpretation. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of molecular and/or cytogenetic techniques and basic laboratory skills. The CLA will work effectively in a team setting, adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, including proper documentation and adherence to all laboratory protocols and procedures, and exhibit ethical behavior, maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Perform tests that require a complex network of steps and variables, independent judgment, and interpretation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of molecular and/or cytogenetic techniques.
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic laboratory skills, equipment startup, daily maintenance, and shutdown.
- Work effectively in a team setting and assist in other departments as needed.
- Adhere to the laboratory’s Quality Control policies, including proper documentation and adherence to all laboratory protocols and procedures.
- Exhibit ethical behavior and maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Become knowledgeable of and comply with all company policies and practices.
- Attend mandatory programs and laboratory staff meetings.
- Acquire 6-12 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) per year by attending or giving presentations covering a variety of topics relevant to Allele Diagnostics.
- Be able to adapt to new and changing roles, responsibilities, demands, and technologies.
- Independently recognize non-standard situations, notify supervisor and, if applicable, document all corrective actions taken when test systems or processes deviate from the laboratory’s established specifications and/or protocols.
- Anticipate and prevent problems independently by taking corrective actions before crises occur; take appropriate steps to resolve.
- Actively participate in department-specific improvement plans.
- Demonstrate effective communication between other departments.
- Be able to establish workload priorities in order to ensure maximum workflow efficiency.
- Recognize and respond to opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of service.
- Monitor inventory requirements and take appropriate action.
- Participate in accrediting agency surveys; perform proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples and participate in follow-up to resolve any inaccurate results.
Requirements
- Baccalaureate Degree in a Biology, Chemistry, or Physics based science.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistics, fractions, percentages, ratios, etc.
- Aptitude for interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule.
- Competency with computers and Microsoft Office programs, such as Word and Excel.
- Ability to work extended hours as business needs dictate.
Position is Full Time days, Monday - Friday.
