Job Description:
Both right and left brained? If you are one of the rare law students who loves math, engineering, and science, then consider joining our firm as a summer clerk. Responsibilities will involve helping us protect our clients’ IP rights with patent prosecution. This position is a great fit for law students who have strong writing skills and enjoy keeping up on cutting edge artificial intelligence, programming, social media, chemistry, math, or other technical topics.
This position will require the successful candidate to work in-person in our Portland, OR office location, as we feel the clerkship will be most rewarding for the participant if they do so. We expect the clerkship to last 6 - 8 weeks during the months of June - August (exact dates and duration to be agreed upon at time of hire). Compensation for this position is $8,500 per month, prorated to actual weeks worked.
Requirements:
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in law school (1L student level preferred)
- Successful candidates must possess at least an undergraduate degree in engineering or science (electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science/engineering, physics and chemistry preferred) and will have earned high marks in their undergraduate and graduate studies
- Must be registered as a patent agent with the USPTO or eligible to take the examination for registration
- Must demonstrate excellent writing skills and verbal communication skills in English
- Language ability in Japanese or Mandarin Chinese would be an appreciated skill that would help us serve our overseas clients, but it is not required
- Must be eligible to work on United States export-controlled matters, as this position includes some work on such matters
