Middle/Upper School History Teacher
Allen Academy seeks an enthusiastic and creative full-time Social Studies teacher, beginning in January of 2024. This teacher should have a passion for working with young people, a willingness to work in a collegial setting, and an ability to use technology as a tool of engagement to foster deep learning. This position also requires an adaptive candidate who can work effectively and compassionately with students of all middle school and high school ages.
Student-centered lesson plans and the integration of technology in the classroom are an increasing emphasis at Allen.
Our dynamic faculty require a flexible candidate with a growth mindset in this position. The department also expects a self-motivated colleague with exceptional oral and written communication skills. This individual will participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the school community in a manner that supports and promotes Allen Academy’s mission.
Main Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare lesson plans that meet core objectives and principles and are in line with the curriculum goals
- Prepare instructional aids and supplemental teaching materials and resources consistent with learning objectives and student needs
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and school supplies as needed
- Deliver lessons using a variety of differentiated instructional techniques that are appropriate to the academic level and meet the diverse needs of students
- Encourage the development of critical thinking skills
- Prepare, administer, and grade assessments and assignments
- Keep parents or guardians informed of students' academic progress and social and behavioral issues
- Maintain accurate and complete student records including attendance, grades, and assessments
Education, Qualifications and Experience
- B.S. in History or similar course content
- Solid knowledge of subject matter including subject-specific curriculum and assessments
- Proficient in the use of technology and computer applications as required
- Up-to-date with latest teaching techniques and topics in Social Studies instruction
