Job Summary:
The Senior Field Technician/Construction Superintendent is a skilled professional responsible for leading the onsite installation, repair, and maintenance of architectural metal elements. In this role, you will oversee installation processes, ensure adherence to quality and safety standards, and support junior technicians in developing their skills. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in architectural metal installation, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and strong leadership skills. This position plays a key role in ensuring that every project meets Allen Architectural Metals’ high standards of craftsmanship and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
Onsite Installation & Quality Control:
  • Installation Leadership:
    Lead the installation of custom architectural metal components, including panels, railings, decorative metalwork, and structural elements. Ensure work aligns with project specifications and client expectations.
  • Blueprint & Design Interpretation:
    Read and interpret complex blueprints, construction drawings, and project documentation to accurately guide installation processes.
  • Quality Assurance:
    Conduct final inspections of all installed elements to verify that quality, alignment, and finish meet Allen Architectural Metals’ standards. Address any on-site adjustments or corrections as needed.
Site Coordination & Project Support:
  • Job Site Management:
    Organize and coordinate daily field operations, including materials handling, equipment setup, and team task assignments. Ensure the site is prepared, organized, and efficient for each day’s work.
  • Team Supervision and Mentorship:
    Oversee a team of junior technicians and support staff, providing training and guidance. Act as a mentor, helping junior team members develop the technical skills and knowledge necessary for career advancement.
  • Client & Contractor Communication:
    Serve as the primary onsite point of contact for clients, contractors, and project managers. Communicate project updates, address any site-specific challenges, and ensure alignment with the client’s expectations.
Safety Compliance & Risk Management:
  • Safety Leadership:
    Enforce and monitor compliance with all safety protocols and OSHA regulations. Conduct regular safety briefings and ensure that all team members use proper PPE.
  • Risk Identification and Mitigation:
    Identify potential risks or hazards in the installation environment and develop proactive measures to address them. Document any incidents and support investigations as necessary.
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:
  • Technical Problem Solving:
    Address onsite challenges, including complex installations, unexpected structural variations, or adjustments to alignment and fit. Provide quick, effective solutions to maintain project timelines.
  • Field Repairs and Adjustments:
    Perform necessary adjustments or repairs on metal components, as needed, to ensure structural integrity and aesthetic alignment with project specifications.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in metalworking, construction, or a related field is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in architectural metal installation or a related field, with a focus on field leadership and quality control.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Technical Expertise:
    In-depth knowledge of metal fabrication, installation techniques, and structural metalwork. Skilled with hand and power tools, as well as measuring and leveling equipment.
  • Blueprint & Design Interpretation:
    Proficient in reading and understanding blueprints, CAD drawings, and project specifications.
  • Leadership & Mentorship:
    Strong leadership abilities with a commitment to training and mentoring junior team members. Experience managing onsite teams is preferred.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
    Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Problem Solving:
    Ability to troubleshoot onsite issues, propose effective solutions, and make real-time decisions to keep projects on schedule.
