General Summary

A Project Manager (PM) guides a project from conception to completion. The goal of a project manager is to communicate effectively with internal production staff and with clients and project stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to a high-quality standard. This is a management role, and a project manager is responsible for coordinating with other team members to ensure that their tasks are completed on time and within budget. Several projects are typically in the process of being completed at any given time, and a Project Manager must be able to manage multiple aspects of the process simultaneously.

Project Managers work cross-functionally and communicate with all parties involved in a project. Project Managers plan, designate, and task project resources, prepare budgets, monitor progress, and keep stakeholders informed. The PM is responsible for assigning tasks to the right team members, checking their progress, and ensuring that each project is completed on time and to the highest standard. The PM is also responsible for updating all systems daily and verifying schedules for drafting and fieldwork tasks. The PM ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements, including boundary calculations and legal issues.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate multiple projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Organize and plan project tasks and schedules.
  • Manage tasks effectively and within the set standards of the company.
  • Stay aware of the company goals and strategies to ensure projects align with business priorities.
  • Facilitate and encourage collaboration across departments to ensure projects are completed successfully.
  • Delegate work to team members based on skills and expertise.
  • Optimize project deliverables, schedule, and budgeting.
  • Keep the project team focused on the end goal.
  • Assisting in establishing CAD and quality control standards and utilizing these standards to minimize hours required to complete a task.
  • Assisting with interviewing and selecting job candidates for placement within the department.
  • Assisting with input on the employee annual review process.
  • Provide top-notch customer service and communication to clients.
  • Keeping current on industry best practices, technology, and compliance/regulations.
  • Engaging in professional development training sessions to evolve Project Management, leadership, or surveying skills.
  • Reviewing, commenting, and providing quality assurance and control on assigned projects.
  • Schedule and track project work such as drafting and fieldwork tasks.
  • Attending project meetings, tradeshows, conferences, and client events as needed.

Daily Routine:

  • Work collaboratively with internal and external project teams.
  • Pre-brief and de-brief job progress with staff daily.
  • Responsible for the record keeping and documentation of assigned projects.
  • Responsible for plotting and checking drawings.
  • Communicate schedule delays and issues proactively with clients.
  • Maintain appropriate file-saving techniques to ensure the ability to reuse files as required.
  • Attends Project Management and department meetings as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Land Production.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, Drafting, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related fields, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Project Management methodologies, techniques, and best practices.
  • Demonstrable problem-solving project management experience and skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
  • Minimum five years of relevant land survey experience, including field staff management experience.
  • Minimum five years of operational land surveying experience.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify sources of measurement errors.
  • Knowledge of land surveying principles, regulations, techniques, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of boundaries, topographic, platting, construction stakeout, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles of survey measurement, staking, and marking.
  • Must have a desire to acquire a PSM license.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong work ethic and team-player attitude.
  • Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential requirements.
