What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney position at Allen County Prosecutor's Ofc?
The Allen County Prosecutor's Office in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is excited to grow our team by hiring entry-level and experienced deputy prosecuting attorneys. We currently have openings in the Child Support, Misdemeanor,and Felony Divisions. We are looking for motivated individuals with excellent communication skills and a desire to serve citizens and crime victims on behalf of the State of Indiana. Our office is a team of thirty lawyers of varying experience levels, as well as experienced office staff and investigators. We are also one of ten High Tech Crime Unit hubs in Indiana. Our felony deputies have one of the most active trial dockets in the state and practice in a beautiful courthouse, which is recognized as a National Historic Landmark. Our criminal felony division consists of six sections: Homicides, Drugs and Firearms, Domestic Violence, Sex Crimes, Major Felonies, and Level 6 Felonies (including financial crimes).
Primary responsibilities of a successful candidate include the following: infraction, juvenile, child support, misdemeanor, and/or felony hearings and trials. Deputies are responsible for the prosecution of their cases from beginning to end. Deputies engage in victim and witness pretrial meetings, legal research, motions practice, depositions, plea negotiations with opposing counsel, evidentiary hearings, bench trials, and jury trials. Our deputies also have the unique opportunity to work closely with various law enforcement agencies by being part of an on-call pager team. Pager team deputies will walk through crime scenes, attend autopsies, answer legal questions from law enforcement, and prepare search warrants for judicial officer signatures.
Deputy prosecutors at our office also have many opportunities to attend Local, State and National-level professional trainings and conferences throughout the year, most of which help satisfy Continuing Legal Education credit requirements.
Full-time deputies can expect a starting salary between $85,000 and $140,000, in addition to Allen County government benefits. Starting salary is dependent on several factors, including experience and expected job duties. Our deputies qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
