We are looking for an exceptionally creative and innovative Graphic Designer. The designer will provide professional consulting, design and processing of all branded materials, including programming, advertising, and internal assets for the Library, Foundation, and Friends to be used system-wide, for both in-house use and public information.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, 40 hour per week position with mostly daytime hours but occasionally evening and weekend hours when needed.

Essential Functions
- Consults with in-house customers to determine requirements for the creation of brochures, posters, reports, publications, illustrations, visual aids, signage, and other graphic and text representations.
- Plans and develops written and visual materials to meet the customers defined needs using conventional methods, including manual and computer-aided desktop publishing and graphic development techniques.
- Prepares preliminary drafts of artwork for customer approval, and develops camera-ready artwork incorporating changes resulting from customer review.
- Recommends selection of paper stock, print styles, colors, layout techniques and printing methods to best enhance the desired outcome of materials produced.
- Schedules multiple projects and determines if finished material should be printed by in-house staff or outside vendors; works with printing staff to ensure that finished materials meet requirements.
- Proofs and checks a variety of written materials.
- Maintains logs and records of work performed.
- Maintains a selection of equipment and supplies; requisitions additional materials and supplies.
- Creates graphics for the Library website and social media.
- Ensures delivery of materials and products in an efficient and timely manner.
- Promotes and supports the overall mission of the Library by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Art, graphic design, or a related field; AND
- Three (3) years of professional experience in conventional and computerized graphic design, desktop publishing and similar graphic presentation operations; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Starting pay is $20.11 per hour and up based on experience

- Principles, practices, materials and techniques of conventional and computerized graphic design and production.
- Hardware and software used in the graphic design and desktop publishing process.
- Printing techniques and materials, including appropriate use of papers, colors and production methods.
- Various graphic media techniques.
- Office administrative practices and procedures.
- Record keeping principles and practices.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Techniques for working with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- Providing assistance to library customers in regard to deliverables.
- Providing technical consulting and guidance to customers.
- Designing and producing effective print and graphic materials for a variety of informational uses.
- Estimating material and production costs for graphic and printing projects.
- Using computer-aided graphics and desk-top publishing hardware and software.
- Accurately proofing various graphic and written materials.
- Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
- Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
- Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
- Organizing own work, setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
- Mobility to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
