Job Title: PHO Tech SETA Health Behavior

Clearance: Public Trust Required upon application

Location:  Washington D.C.

Education: Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in psychology, public health, or a related field.  4 years of experience in project management, research management or related fields.

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical SETA Specialist to join the Proactive Health Office at ARPA-H. The ideal candidate will possess advanced expertise in health behavior and mental health; digital innovation; and business planning, marketing, and commercialization toward the broad uptake of innovative health solutions. This role requires a unique blend of technical, business, regulatory, and collaborative skills to guide the development of innovative health solutions that enhance wellness and improve patient care and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Health Behavior and Mental Health Expertise: Provide expert technical assistance in developing and evaluating programs to support the Proactive Health Office mission.
  • Business Planning, Marketing, and Commercialization Expertise: Assist and advise on business planning, commercial market, product development, intellectual property. Evaluate potential proactive health solutions for the likelihood of broad uptake and commercialization. Support project planning, execution, and documentation, ensuring alignment with ARPA-H's mission and Proactive Health Office objectives.
  • Digital Health Innovation: Assist in researching novel technical concepts for proactive health solutions such as those that leverage AI and digital technologies including passive sensing, digital phenotyping, remote monitoring and adaptive treatment strategies.
  • Regulatory and Ethical Considerations: Ensure compliance with healthcare technology regulations and address data privacy, security, and ethical concerns in using personal health data.
  • Collaborative and Interdisciplinary Skills: Work closely with others of diverse and complementary backgrounds to achieve program goals and ensure effective interdisciplinary collaboration.

Key Qualifications:

  1. Health Behavior and Mental Health Expertise:
    • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in psychology, public health, or a related field with a focus on clinically-relevant health behavior and mental health applications.
  2. Business Planning, Marketing, and Commercialization Expertise:
    • Assist and advise on business planning, commercial marketing, product development, intellectual property. Evaluate potential proactive health solutions for the likelihood of broad uptake and commercialization. Support project planning, execution, and documentation, ensuring alignment with ARPA-H's mission and Proactive Health Office objectives.
  3. Digital Health Innovation:
    • Familiarity with current trends in digital technologies for healthcare.
    • Insight into clinical care models, healthcare challenges, and regulatory and ethical considerations in digital health.
    • Expertise in leveraging AI and digital technologies such as remote monitoring for personalized adaptive treatment strategies.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the challenges and emerging opportunities in implementing digital technologies for healthcare.
  4. Collaborative and Interdisciplinary Skills:
    • Track record of successful collaboration with others from diverse roles (clinicians, scientists) and fields (medicine, engineering) to achieve interdisciplinary program goals.
  5. Regulatory and Ethical Considerations:
    • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks for healthcare technology development.
    • Awareness of data privacy, security, and ethical concerns in using personal health data within digital applications.

Prior Experience Requirements:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to handle a wide variety of tasks, including briefing support and general administration.
  • Strong technical writing skills with an ability to prepare effective documentation.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and adept at multitasking in a high-pressure environment. Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and manage changing priorities effectively.
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in psychology, public health, or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience in project management, research management or related fields.

Additional Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with human subjects research, including regulatory management and oversight.
  • Experience in qualitative data collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination.
  • Experience developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for research programs.
  • Government experience with extramural R&D funding.
  • Prior experience in supporting leadership.
