Job Summary
Allendale Columbia School (AC) seeks a collaborative and creative teacher to be an integral part of AC’s learning community. The person who is hired for this position will work collaboratively with other teachers, specialists, and the Division Heads to provide a strong inquiry-based and student-centered program. The ability to assess and address current trends in library science and new media are qualities that the successful candidate will possess. This part-time long-term substitute appointment will begin on February 1, 2025.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Oversee the school’s library for grades Pre-Primary through 12.
- Manage the current inviting and inclusive library environment to ensure that all patrons are reflected.
- Keep the current organizational system within the library to make sure the library remains tidy and welcoming.
- Stay abreast of developments in the field through reading, research, and professional development, including faculty professional development days;
- Liaise and collaborate with colleagues, including Head of School, division heads, teachers, & counselors.
- Have knowledge of, uphold, model, and communicate the mission of Allendale Columbia and Allendale Columbia’s Statement of Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity and Belonging.
- Support 4th Grade Literacy for 1 hour daily in the 4th grade classroom where you will plan and lead a daily reading group with 4th graders and collaborate with the 4th grade teacher.
Qualifications
- A Master of Library Science (MLS) degree or Masters in Literacy Instruction is preferred. Other comparable degrees and experience will be considered;
- Previous experience as a school librarian and /or media specialist
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate closely with faculty and to support research and media projects across all subjects and Divisions;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills related to interactions with students, parents, and teachers;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Attention to detail, strong organization skills, and an adherence to timeliness.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Follett Destiny Library Management System is preferred.
- This role is expected to extend through the end of April 2025.
- Previous experience teaching reading at grades 3-5 is preferred
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $400 a week. Please note that the weekly pay reflects compensation for days worked during a typical school week and excludes holidays and school closings(winter break 2/18/25 to -2/21/25 & spring break 4/14/25-4/18/25). Holidays and school breaks will be unpaid.
