Job Summary:
Responsible for quality therapeutic care, treatment, and education to diagnose and treat addiction, substance use, and mental health disorders. Compassionately responsible for assessing and monitoring adult patient’s condition to modify behavior and improve mental health determining the patient’s readiness for treatment.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Establishes rapport, gathers data, and determines the needs of patients.
- Respects the rights of individuals, including the ethical aspects of boundaries, care, treatment, and services, allowing the patient to be a major part of their treatment and recovery.
- Respects patient confidentiality and HIPAA as core values of our company, in accordance with Title 42 CFR, ensuring the patient knows and understands their rights.
- Maintains individual or group cohesion and shifts focus as needed.
- Confidentially presents topics appropriate to the needs of the patient.
- Anticipates the ongoing needs of patients and able to pivot care as needed, at times on short notice.
- Effectively receives information from various sources and has the ability to disseminate information for appropriate care.
- Coordinates and presents activities.
- Provides group or individual didactic and educational lectures. Uses evidence to educate the patient and their family about the suicidal mind, symptoms of illness, and effectiveness of intervention.
- Ensures immediate safety and provides a thorough and concise handoff to other clinicians when a patient is at increased risk for suicide. Bases the type of interventions on the immediate risk level.
- Effectively and timely communicates patient progress or regression via clearly written, verbal, and electronic methods, with physicians, nurses, BHT’s and clinical staff.
- Communicates with empathy and educates patients and their families about therapy plans with measurable treatment goals and objectives. Discusses relapse triggers and ability to positively cope with mental health issues.
- Accurately and timely records patient observations and activities in patient records and charts in terms of chemical dependency.
- Implements safety and emergency procedures during fire, severe weather, or workplace violence drills or actual events, assisting patients to safety.
- Confidently responds to and assists with crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
- Provides recommendations for, and adheres to, individual and department goals and objectives.
- Attends regular team meetings.
- Regular attendance is essential to the success of the department.

Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
- Sensitive to cultural diversity – being aware of and respecting cultural differences as it directly impacts the patient’s physical ability to function in sensitive or stressful situations.
- Ability to be non-judgmental and provide care and compassion with chemically dependent individuals during and after detoxification.
- Ability to have clinical competencies verified within 90 days of hire. Includes, but not limited to, unit specific skills, age-appropriate diagnosis, addiction and suicide screening and assessment, mental health assessment, safety, documentation and communication, and provisions of care.
- Learned knowledge and ability to detect adult behaviors in cognitive and perceptual areas, physical capacities, psychosocial needs, interpersonal relationships and how to positively cope with stress in various roles and relationships in an adult life.
- Ability to screen for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms.
- Confident in reporting abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- Able to read, analyze and interpret policies and instructions to present information effectively in both verbal and written communication skills.
- Open to feedback and responds appropriately.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills within the team, as well as patients.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to function confidently in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in addiction studies or a related field such as psychology, counseling, social work, or psychology, or mental health, required.
- Required Licenses: LCAC, LCACA, LMHC, LMHCA, LMFT, LMFTA, LCSW, or LSW
- Current professional licensure in the state of Indiana, required.
- Prefer experience working with addiction, substance use disorder or mental health issues.
- Participates in continuing education and other professional development.
- Proficient with Google Business Suite, Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Prefer experience with electronic medical records such as KIPU.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and moving.
- Proper lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling techniques up to 25 pounds.
- Execute proper hand hygiene.
- Use of proper PPE (gloves, mask, goggles, gown, etc.).
- Periods of high stress.
- Teamwork and individual motivation are critical to the success of this position
