Job Summary:
Provides independent primary care, addiction and pain management, balancing care with other medical services associated with out-patient rehabilitation. Compassionately responsible for diagnosing, assessing, and monitoring adult patient’s condition and diagnosis with substance use disorder and mental illness.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
- May provide mentorship and training with student nurses.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Establishes rapport, gathers data, and determines the history and needs of patients.
- Respects the rights of individuals, including the ethical aspects of boundaries, care, treatment, and services, allowing the patient to be a major part of their treatment and recovery.
- Respects patient confidentiality and HIPAA as core values of our company, in accordance with Title 42 CFR, ensuring the patient knows and understands their rights.
- Administers drugs, medications, treatments, inoculations, and tests as allowed by law in accordance with established procedures.
- Obtains complete and focused evaluations and physical/psychiatric exams within regulatory timeframes.
- Anticipates the ongoing needs of patients, reporting any client who exhibits signs of depression and suicide ideation to medical and clinical staff.
- Provides all medical services within reasonable and expected medical standards and in compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the applicable health licensing boards. Displays excellent clinical and professional judgment.
- Provides medication management, which may include psychotropic medication. Educates and observes effectiveness with patients.
- Orders, obtains, and assesses appropriate laboratory tests and diagnostics.
- Implements verbal physician orders and authenticates in writing, within a reasonable time, in the patient records.
- Maintains timely, complete, accurate, and legible medical records for all patients evaluated and treated by the NP. Completes documentation within 24 hours of visit.
- Communicates with courtesy, respect, and dignity, and educates staff, patients, and their families about medical conditions.
- Reports all accidents and incidents.
- Implements safety and emergency procedures during fire, severe weather, or workplace violence drills or actual events, assisting patients to safety.
- Provides recommendations for individual and department goals and objectives.
- Actively participates in regular staff meetings.
- Regular attendance is essential to the success of the department. Demonstrates versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.

Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
- Sensitive to cultural diversity – being aware of and respecting cultural differences.
- Ability to be non-judgmental and provide care and compassion with chemically dependent individuals during and after detoxification.
- Identifies emergency situations and responds with appropriate measures within their scope of practice and plans for the care of the patient.
- Ability to have nurse practitioner competencies verified within 90 days of hire. Includes, but not limited to, unit specific skills, safety, documentation and communication, medication administration, and provisions of care.
- Authorized to sign documents on behalf of the supervising physician, attending physician, or another physician under the Executive Director of Medical.
- Ability to follow established policies concerning exposure to blood borne pathogens, infections control (NPSG), OHSA, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Confident in reporting abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- Able to read, analyze and interpret policies and instructions to present information effectively in both verbal and written communication skills.
- Open to feedback and responds appropriately.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills within the team, as well as patients.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to function confidently in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Education and Experience:
- Current APRN licensure in the state of Indiana to practice under the IN-State Board of Nursing – IC 25-23-1-19.4.
- Will review other licensures combined with experience to meet equivalent standards of APRN.
- Prefer 1 year of experience working with addiction, substance use disorder or mental health issues.
- Maintains a licensure to practice as an NP in good standing and maintains continuing education credits in accordance with all applicable state requirements, during the course of employment.
- Proficient with Google Business Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, or related software.
- Experience with electronic medical records such as KIPU.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk viewing a computer.
- Proper lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling techniques up to 50 pounds.
- Execute proper hand hygiene.
- Use of proper PPE (gloves, mask, goggles, gown, etc.).
- Periods of high stress.
- Teamwork and individual enthusiasm are critical to the success of this position.
