The mission of the Allentown Parking Authority is to operate, monitor, and maintain convenient and accessible parking facilities and on-street parking opportunities within the City of Allentown. The Allentown Parking Authority works to balance the parking needs of residents, employees, business and property owners, and visitors while enforcing parking ordinances and providing appropriate access to parking.
The Parking Meter Collector & Repairer is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning, collection, and maintenance of parking meters within the designated parking areas. This role involves collection of payment from parking meters, conducting inspections for operational issues, and performing necessary repairs or adjustments to meters to ensure they are in optimal working condition. The Parking Meter Collector & Repairer will also provide customer service to address parking-related concerns and report any issues that may require further attention. This position has a responsibility to the community to treat everyone with respect and fairness with customer service being the number one priority. The Parking Meter Collector & Repairer reports directly to the Meter Supervisor in the Enforcement Department.

Essential Functions
- Community Engagement:
- Act as an ambassador for the Parking Authority by providing courteous and helpful interactions with residents, visitors, and business owners
- Educate the public on parking regulations, helping them to understand the reasons behind the rules and the benefits to the community
- Respond to public inquiries and concerns with professionalism and empathy, offering guidance and solutions where possible
- Meter Collection:
- Collect parking fees from parking meters on a scheduled basis.
- Accurately count and record collected coins, bills, and other forms of payment.
- Deposit collected payments in a secure manner and report discrepancies.
- Repair and Maintenance:
- Inspect parking meters for proper functioning, identifying any malfunctions or issues.
- Perform routine maintenance such as dismantling parking meters, and inspect, clean, and/or replace gears, springs, locks, glass, and other parts.
- Installation and Upgrades:
- Assist with the installation of new or repaired parking meters and stanchions or upgrades to existing systems as needed.
- Paint and cement stanchions on streets.
- Place and remove temporary ‘No Parking’ signs
- Safety and Accessibility:
- Report any hazards or issues in parking areas, such as broken meters or obstructed spaces, to a supervisor for resolution.
- Follow all safety procedures while handling tools, equipment, and during meter repairs.
- Ensure compliance with all local parking regulations and policies
- Recording and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of meter collections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Maintain inventory and assist in the ordering of parts
- Utilize electronic and manual recording and information systems used by the Authority
- Customer Service:
- Address escalated customer complaints and issues related to parking meters and enforcement practices.
- Conflict Resolution:
- Handle disputes and challenging situations with tact and diplomacy, aiming to de-escalate tensions.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to walk over 75% of the working day, sometimes over uneven terrain, bend and stoop multiple times a day, lift up to 100 pounds and push 200 pounds, and have manual dexterity to handle tools.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in all weather conditions.
- Must be proficient in the use of tools and be mechanically inclined.
- Employee is required to report to work and work outside in all weather conditions.
