What are the responsibilities and job description for the Allergy Injector Nursing Specialist position at Allergy and Immunology As?
The Allergy Injection Nurse is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care by controlling allergy shot patient flow, obtaining and documenting necessary history and vital signs. The Allergy Injection Nurse is required to present a positive service-ordinated image with actions that are consistent with practice service standards.
Essential Job Functions
- Knowledgeable on allergies, immunology and anaphylaxis management.
- Repetitious job requiring absolute focus and accuracy in dosing of allergy serum.
- Fast-paced environment to accommodate the scheduled allergy injections (one patient every 5 minutes).
- Administers up to 120 injections per day (roughly 40 patients per Nurse).
- Works with a wide age group from pediatric to geriatric patients.
- Adheres to all relevant nursing standards.
- Administers allergy injections based off treatment plan per provider in a fast-paced environment and reports to provider with deviation in treatment plan.
- Maintains quality assurance of nursing documentation and client records and ensures compliance with nursing policies and procedures.
- Provides clinical expertise in the management of medical emergencies.
- Ensures the practice complies with Federal and State regulatory standards at all locations.
- Effectively intercedes with family and patients and resolves concerns related to the delivery of health care services.
- Responds to phone calls and concerns from patient’s families and other medical offices.
- Accurately comments and adhere to all infection control, safety and confidentiality policies.
- Administers subcutaneous biologic, immunotherapy (allergy) and intramuscular injections.
- Assists physicians in treating medical problems and implementing anaphylaxis protocol.
- Reacts appropriately in patient reaction situations; informs physicians and/or other clinical staff as necessary to mitigate adverse reactions.
- Regularly interacts with physicians and other department in order to identify and resolve problems.
- Ensures and maintains a safe environment for patients and employees.
- Follows clean and sterile procedures per USP Chapter 797 guidelines.
- Ability to lift and/or move 30 pounds.
- Ability to stand/sit for long periods.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Any additional certification in healthcare administration will be considered an advantage.
- Knowledge of allergy procedures preferred.
- Outstanding patient management skills.
- Travelling to our other locations is required when filling in the nursing schedule.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Must perform highly complex and varied tasks requiring independent knowledge, its application to a variety of situation; and exercise independent judgement.
- Great organizational and time management skills.
- Problem solver with a positive attitude.
- Current CPR certification and a valid and unrestricted LPN or RN license.
- Ability to use manual dexterity to perform medical treatments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and a diverse patient population.
- Knowledge of HIPAA.
- 2-3 years in experience in a medical office or a similar clinical setting required.
