Job description
Part-time positions (15 to 32 hours each) for Medical Assistant (MA), needed for growing allergy practice in Rochester Hills and Troy.
As a Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the medical office/hospital. You will support doctors and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization, and communication. The target is to complete all activities accurately, with high quality, and in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Interview patients and document basic medical history
- Organize and schedule appointments
- Update and file medical records and insurance reports
- Arrange hospital admissions and laboratory services
- Check with patients and type up patients charts
- Assist during medical examinations
- Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes, and forms
- Handle receivable and payable accounts and keep financial records
- Prepare and clean treatment rooms and medical instruments
Skills
- Proven working experience as a medical assistant or medical secretary
- Knowledge of medical office management systems and procedures
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Social perceptiveness and service-oriented
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and patient management software
- Degree in medical assistance
NO Experience in allergy is needed and will be trained for the job. Must be able to work on Saturday mornings (4 hours), and evenings on Monday (till 6 pm), and/or Thursday (till 7 pm). Travel required between the offices (Rochester Hills and Troy) to cover for a sick or a vacationing staff member.
Applicant must be energetic and have a caring and professional attitude. Also, must be courteous to patients of all ages, and must be able to perform duties in infants, toddlers, children, and adults. Must be able to understand the basic knowledge of computers to operate electronic health records, electronic prescribing, appointment scheduling, and on occasion medical transcriptions (will be trained for the job).
The position requires a willingness to cross-train and offer support on a clerical level in addition to primary clinical duties. A medical assistant in an allergy office must be able to perform, primarily, medical assisting functions (clinical duties such as triaging patients, performing pulmonary function testing, administering allergen immunotherapy, performing allergy testing, making allergen immunotherapy vials, refilling patient medications, obtaining prior authorizations, etc.), sanitizing patient rooms between patients, stocking patient rooms, assist with opening and closing office, and ordering supplies. Our medical assistants are cross-trained so that, on occasion, they can help with some front office duties (such as greeting patients, triaging patients, periodically sanitizing the front office, answering telephones, relaying messages, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, checking patient balances, collecting patient balances, obtaining referrals, requesting for prior authorizations, refilling medications, troubleshooting insurance issues, working on insurance claims, etc.). All training is done on the job. Thus, expect to be in training for 3 to 4 months.
Applicant must be punctual, reliable, self-motivated, and have excellent communication skills. Also, the appearance in a medical office has to be neat and professional looking.
