POSITION DESCRIPTION :
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports physicians and other members of the health care team by performing a variety of back-office patient related tasks and ensuring a quality patient experience. MA’s will accomplish this by following the policies, procedures, and protocols set forth by the Foot and Ankle Specialists (FAS) and supporting the company’s vision and values.
POSITION DUTIES :
- Always exhibits professional behavior.
- Smiles and help patients feel comfortable. Provides a great patient experience.
- Room and interview patients.
- Obtain X-ray images and perform ABI tests.
- Trim and debride toenails, remove bandages and sutures. Perform treatments such as Shockwaves, lasers, and taping.
- Assists the doctor by being in the room while they are with the patient. Send prescriptions prescribed by the doctor. Prepare for and assist with procedures.
- Fill out consent forms, DME dispensing forms, and all other required documentation.
- Collect and prepare specimens to be sent to the lab and provide proper documentation in the doctor’s note.
- Fit patients with DME’s (boots, braces, night splits, etc).
- Complete the doctor’s note (chief complaint, medication list, physical exam, assessment, and plan).
- Process new patient paperwork (updated Meds, allergies, medical conditions, past surgeries, Primary Care Physician (PCP), Date last seen by PCP).
- Update the patient’s chart with the medications, allergies, medical conditions, surgeries, changes in health, as well as other tracking info set forth by FAS.
- Clean and maintain medical equipment, instruments, and cleaning solutions.
- Prepare the clinic each day for patients (make injections, stock rooms, clean instruments, etc).
- Educate and assist patients with medical questions and concerns in person or over the phone.
- Acts as a patient advocate. Assist patients with needs that arise during their visit such as putting on / removing shoes and socks, grabbing products prescribed by the doctor, and walking the patient to the checkout desk to communicate necessary information to the front office staff.
- Work as a team and provide overall support for the physicians and other office staff.
- Other duties and responsibilities that arise.
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
Education : High School Diploma
Experience : 1-2 years (preferred but not required)
License / Certification : CMA (preferred but not required)
Working Environment : Works medical office. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Works between 7-9 hours per day. Will be required to use proper personal protective equipment.
