Forensic Assertive Community Treatment - Therapist - Full-time - $5K Sign-on

Description

Forensic assertive community treatment (FACT) is a service delivery model intended for individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) who are involved with the criminal justice system. These individuals may have co-occurring substance use and physical health disorders. Their needs are often complex, and their disorders are often under-managed and further complicated by varying degrees of involvement with the criminal justice system. FACT builds on the evidence-based assertive community treatment (ACT) model by making adaptations based on criminal justice issues—in particular, addressing criminogenic risks and needs. In this sense, FACT is an intervention that bridges the behavioral health and criminal justice systems. This position will work specifically with individuals involved in the 18th and 23rd judicial districts.

  • Must hold at least a Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate institution.
  • Licensed or license eligible preferred.
  • LAC or LAC eligible preferred.

Schedule : Monday - Friday 8AM - 5PM. No overnights, weekends, or on-call.

Job Purpose : The licensed or license eligible clinical position for the FACT team is an essential position that provides individual therapy, focusing on improving clients’ mental health outcomes and daily functioning; reduce recidivism by addressing criminogenic risks and needs; divert individuals in need of treatment away from the criminal justice system; manage costs by reducing reoccurring arrest, incarceration, and hospitalization; and increase public safety. Additionally, the position will teach skills for managing mental health and substance use and for maintaining mental stability in the community utilizing a trauma informed approach.

The FACT team stands out with its low client-to-staff ratio, community-based service delivery, and a shared caseload managed by an interdisciplinary team.

Goals and Objectives :

  • Addressing criminogenic risk and needs as part of the treatment plan, including the use of evidence based cognitive behavioral therapies shown to reduce recidivism.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions and documentation to meet regulatory standards and / or contractual requirements.
  • Serving clients with SMI who have prior arrests and incarcerations.
  • Leveraging sanctions and incentives imposed by the criminal justice agencies, providing supervision, when appropriate.
  • Actively participate in, and contribute to, a team-based model to ensure integration of services and coordination of care to promote improved client outcomes.
  • Promote positive culture of collaboration within AllHealth Network.
  • Meet performance expectations for the job role.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions and documentation to meet regulatory standards and / or contractual requirements.
  • Duties and Responsibilities :

  • De-escalation Techniques : Given the high-stress nature of the criminal justice system and the mental health challenges associated with SPMI, therapists must be proficient in de-escalation strategies. This includes remaining calm in intense situations and helping clients manage emotions in a healthy way
  • Crisis Management : The ability to manage and intervene in mental health crises, whether related to suicidal ideation, psychosis, or extreme distress, is critical. Therapists must know when and how to involve other professionals, such as emergency services, while maintaining therapeutic support
  • Complete comprehensive assessments, care plans, evaluations, crisis intervention and psychotherapy to individuals, families, and groups of clients with mental health and behavioral health needs who are involved in the 18th and 23rd judicial district criminal justice system
  • Use evidence-based models for treatment, including but not limited to CBT, brief solution-focused therapy, choice theory, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and DBT
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating with case managers, peers, nurses, and psychiatric providers
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in EHR according to established protocols
  • Positively contribute to the financial health of the organization by ensuring delivery of billable services and utilizing, monitoring, and collecting data for decision making and program improvements
  • Maintain positive, ethical, and professional working relationships with community, government agencies, and other professionals
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in specialized training
  • Complete all required documentation accurately, legibly and within established timelines
  • Follow all AllHealth Network policies and procedures
  • Complete all required trainings as listed in Relias Learning within required timelines
  • Perform other duties as required within the scope of the position and the experience, education and ability of the employee
  • Key Technical Skills and Knowledge :

  • Education : Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field.
  • Experience : Minimum of 2 years post graduate experience working in a clinical setting in the behavioral health, substance abuse and / or criminal justice field.
  • Demonstrate a high level of skill in assessment, evaluation and therapeutic engagement of diverse clients; use of evidence-based counseling models and techniques that match presenting problems; good diagnostic skills and treatment / care planning; and the ability to work with clinical documentation and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Knowledge of DSM 5 and working principles of recovery and trauma-informed care in treatment planning and in direct care. Experience working with individuals and families who experience various mental, behavioral, and substance abuse conditions.
  • Ability to operate PC-based software programs including proficiency in Word, Excel and other computer-based systems.
  • Possess advanced written and oral communication, decision making and problem-solving skills, and efficient time management. Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team; collaborating with other internal and external teams.
  • Must possess own transportation, have a good driving record, a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance.
