- Lead the build of custom robotic systems in house.
- Lead the dismantle and ship of the robot system.

Lead Machine Builder Job Description:
A skilled Lead Machine Builder uses their knowledge of custom automation and precision machine building to manage and assist the build of robot cells. These machines are uniquely designed assembly. A machine builder develops his plans by studying blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, machining parameters & interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.
The Lead Machine Builder will be responsible for:
- Fits and assembles components according to assembly blueprints, manuals, sketches and has the knowledge of machine construction to construct, rebuild and repair machines and equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
- Sets up and operates metalworking machines, such as milling and grinding machines, to shape or fabricate parts.
- Verifies the conformance of parts to the engineering stock list and blueprints by using measuring instruments, such as calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
- May be required to layout hole locations on their own to drill and tap holes on parts for the assembly process.
- Aligns mechanical components for assembly, manually or with or with a hoist.
- Bolts, screws, dowels, welds, or rivets parts together using hand tools, rivet gun and welding equipment or coordinates with a welder or electrician to complete this work.
- Preforms the task of fit and function of all components required and makes adjustment to components based on results making critical decisions to complete the assembly.
- Before beginning fabrication, the machine builder must be able to interpret the parts design from blueprints to correctly determine if the proper material has been selected by the engineer. Communication with the engineers may be required to make any necessary changes.
- Operates the machine to verify functionality, machine capability and conformance to the customer’s specifications.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities & reading technical publications.

- Participate in R&D activities for company and customer projects.
- Work with robots to integrate into machines.
Education and Experience:
- 5 Years of prior machine building experience.
- Must have the ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
- ASME drawing standards
- General understanding of automation machinery.
- Strong Mechanical design aptitude and capability.
- Knowledge of engineering materials.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Utilize and maintain effective written and verbal communication skills and techniques and effectively interact with the engineering department.
Machine Builder Skills and Qualifications:
- Good working knowledge of basic math, trigonometry & geometry must be used in the shop environment.
- Solid background in blueprint reading, machining, machine assembly, troubleshooting & problem solving.
- Uses precision measuring instruments to verify the quality of the products which have been machined through their machining efforts or someone else’s.
- A machine builder must be able to evaluate product quality and make key decisions which are required to produce a quality product.
Desired Computer Skills:
- Windows based operating systems, Microsoft 365.
Other Skills Required:
- Must be able to be a part of a self-directed work force requiring minimal supervision.
- Good communication skills are a must.
- Ability to critical think and is a must.
- Excellent organizational skills are a must.
- Excellent time management skills are a must.
- Must be able to be a good team member. Teamwork is a must.
- 5 years of prior machine building experience preferred.
- Must have the ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Ability to design work holding and other integrated components.
- Machining process development.
- PLC knowledge a plus.
- Robot knowledge.
- Strong mechanical design aptitude and capability.
Requirements:
- High School Degree.
- 3-5 years of experience as a machine builder leadsman or helper.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position will lead other build team members. As a Lead, the position will require mentorship and guidance to less advanced team members.

This job operates in a professional office and build floor manufacturing environment.
