Position Purpose
The internal audit specialist is responsible for assisting the internal audit department’s objective, set forth in the annual audit plan, to examine and evaluate the effectiveness of the Credit Union’s internal controls and to ensure that adequate internal controls are being followed with applicable policies, and procedures. Provide information and assistance to management; document audit findings while providing recommendations for improvements.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely document audits assigned by AVP Internal Audit.
- Compile data and documentation needed for completion of specific areas of review in the audit program.
- Document audit results in work papers according to the internal audit department’s standards.
- Analyze and report audit findings and recommendations to the AVP Internal Audit and management.
- Identify areas of risk of internal controls and report to the AVP Internal Audit.
- Assist the AVP Internal Audit with special projects, as necessary.
- Furnish requested information by external auditors and examiners as directed by the AVP Internal Audit.
- Prepare formal reports documenting audit procedures, examinations performed, and audit results. Provide input to the effectiveness of existing systems, policies and procedures, and the efficiency with which activities are performed. Inform AVP Internal Audit of recommendations for improvement.
- Perform the audits in accordance with the standards provided by AVP Internal Audit, revised as needed in coordination with Senior Management.
- Write or update policies/procedures related to this position.
- Write department workflows related to this position.
Education / Knowledge / Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with all levels of management and credit union staff.
- Well-organized, efficient, and able to work independently.
- Detail-oriented to generate accurate and precise work.
- Knowledge of as many areas of the credit union operations as possible and the ability to analyze specific areas of credit union policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to credit unions and the ability to interpret and understand laws and regulations.
- Proficiency navigating the internet and using Microsoft Office suite products, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Intermediate math skills (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.)
- Working knowledge of or ability to thoroughly learn Alliance’s data processing systems
