Salary : $16.50-$17.75 per hour
The Shelter Aide I position will be responsible for creating a welcoming environment for shelter guests, community partners, and visitors, in person, by phone, or other electronic media, in a professional and responsive manner. The Shelter Aide I will create a welcoming, non-judgmental atmosphere and provide hospitality to clients of the shelter by creating and maintaining an atmosphere of respect, trust, calm, and safety. This position will ensure the smooth operation of the shelter environment in general, while completing tasks identified by the Program Director, and be responsible for the direct and general duties listed below.

This position will be expected to work Saturday and Sunday, midnight 8 : 30 am.
Essential Duties
Provide hospitality to the shelter clients by creating and maintaining an atmosphere of respect, trust,
calm, and safety and offer other supports;
Ensure program procedures and expectations are respected;
Facilitate access to essential needs (shower, laundry, hygiene, transportation, etc.);
Maintain a clean environment, including trash removal, cleaning, and restocking;
Communicate through the use of paper logs, reports, and electronic communications.
Attend staff training and meetings as directed by supervision; Complete shift responsibilities as assigned by procedures or supervision;
Additional Responsibilities
Answers multiple phone lines and emails;
Maintains forms and documents related to the functioning of the Shelter (including incident reports);
Complete data-entry of service logs;
Helps maintain shelter cleanliness and beautification, maintains office supply inventory including needs;
Stays up to date on activities / events available at Alliance Programs and other community organizations;
Other duties as assigned within the scope of job classification;
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education / Experience :
High School Diploma / GED;
Some college or vocational courses are desirable;
Experience in social service programs and service coordination or work / life experience;
Previous experience working with houseless and low-income individuals preferred;
Good oral and written communication, and electronic correspondence skills;
Knowledge of Office Equipment Operation, including computers, phone, fax, copier, etc., Trauma-Informed Care;
Current social, economic, and health problems, and of human behavior and social functioning;
Ability to :
Be accurate, reliable, punctual, well organized, careful and thorough;
Communicate effectively orally, electronically and written;
Work effectively with limited supervision and foster a team atmosphere;
Prioritize work and exercise good judgment, schedule and manage workload;
Demonstrate comfort and expertise in operating computers and other technology;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers and the general public;
Analyzing facts and exercising sound judgment in arriving at conclusions;
Prepare clear and concise reports;
Physical Requirements :
Facility to see read and distinguish printed and handwritten documents;
Facility to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone;
Facility to constantly use hands and arms to input data into computer;
Ability to move boxes of files from one location to another; physical agility to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, and to bend, stoop, walk and reach overhead;
Ability to sit for extended periods of time;
Must be able to concentrate for long periods;
Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position in an accurate, neat, timely fashion : to make good judgments and decisions; and to evaluate the results of decisions and judgments;
Other Requirements :
Must complete finger printing and background check upon hire, at Alliance expense. Failure to pass fingerprint clearance or background may result in withdrawal of job appointment
Must have reliable transportation, a valid drivers license, and DMV clearance
Must have and maintain active auto insurance policy
