The Ethos Youth Program Specialist plays a key role in advancing the mission and programs of Ethos Youth Center by fostering strong relationships with young people and delivering impactful, empowering services. In this position, the Youth Program Specialist is responsible for providing prevention and support to youth facing challenges such as unstable housing, substance abuse, and experiences of interpersonal violence, including domestic violence and sexual assault. With a focus on equality and empowerment, the Program Specialist will work closely with youth to create a safe, supportive environment that encourages personal growth, resilience, and self-expression. The role also includes incorporating artistic and creative opportunities, allowing youth to explore and express themselves through art, fostering emotional healing and personal discovery. The Youth Program Specialist will integrate artistic activities and resources to engage youth in building their confidence and problem-solving skills. The role requires a highly relational approach to youth engagement and at least five years of driving experience.

This position will be expected to work Monday - Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm

 

Essential Duties

  • Build and Maintain Relationships with Youth: Foster meaningful, trusting relationships with young people to support their personal growth, well-being, and success in the program.
  • Ensure Trauma-Informed and Culturally Responsive Programming: Design and implement programming that is both trauma-informed and culturally sensitive to meet the diverse needs of youth.
  • Collaborate with Community Partners: Establish and maintain strong relationships with community partners to enhance the support network for youth, ensuring access to additional resources and services.
  • Create and Implement Youth Programs: Develop, execute, and evaluate programs aligned with the objectives of the Elevate Youth Grant to empower youth and address their specific challenges.
  • Assess and Address Youth Needs: Understand and respond to the unique needs of youth in areas such as housing instability, substance abuse, and interpersonal violence, applying culturally responsive practices in all interventions.
  • Provide Direct Services and Advocacy: Offer direct services to youth, advocating for their needs and ensuring they receive the support necessary for personal and social development. May be required to safely transport youth to and from various program locations, events, or activities.
  • Track and Follow-Up on Referrals and Resources: Maintain an up-to-date resource and service database for participating youth, ensure timely follow-up on referrals from partner agencies, and provide continued engagement with resources for long-term support.

Additional Responsibilities

Youth Support

  • Develop positive relationships with young people in the youth center & the community as a whole.
  • Provide health, educational and justice system advocacy for youth who are at risk of being houseless, substance abuse, interpersonal violence, or other adverse experiences.
  • Use knowledge of the local area and of adolescent behavior and issues affecting youth in Mariposa, to appropriately engage each youth.
  • Create lessons around current mainstream topics.
  • Make referrals to other agencies and services as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality of participants
  • Create an environment free of bias and judgements
  • May be required to provide client assistance or supportive counseling in crisis situations.
  • Regularly communicate with staff and community partners to ensure ongoing and effective communication between Programs;

Drop-in Center support

  • Greets clients and community partners that walk in the office;
  • Maintains forms and documents related to the functioning of the office and transportation program (including incident reports);
  • Maintains communication with vendors, contractors, and community partners on behalf of the program;
  • Complete data-entry of service logs;
  • Helps maintain office cleanliness and beautification, maintains office supply inventory and lets PD know ordering needs;
  • Stays up to date on activities and events available at MHH and at other organizations;
  • Attend program and agency staff meetings when requested by Director;
  • Ensure cleanliness of the youth center on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. This includes maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen area, study room, bathroom, larger room, and outdoor area.
  • Input statistical data daily and create reports for the Youth Services team as needed in a timely manner
  • Input data and track ongoing services & outreach for the services provided to youth.
  • Assist Program Director in maintaining and updating forms associated with data collection as grant objectives or programs change.
  • Maintain, create, and organize forms as needed at the youth center.
  • Update Website and check Face book pages, as requested by Program Directors.
  • Answers multiple phone lines
  • Represents Ethos in the community in a professional manner.
  • Assist with the outreach for Ethos programs.
  • May serve as a liaison with community groups, offering presentations about the youth center and its needs.
  • Assists with community events, utilizing volunteers, such as a fundraiser, a festival or other event
  • Support Ethos staff in North County Outreach activities
  • Other Duties Assigned

       

       ​Other Requirements: 

      • Must complete finger printing and background check upon hire, at Alliance expense.  Failure to pass fingerprint clearance or background may result in withdrawal of job appointment 
      • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and DMV clearance 
      • Must have and maintain active auto insurance policy 
      • The Alliance highly recommends vaccination against COVID-19, although staff are not required to be vaccinated.
