Spring Internship Opportunity - Alliance for Incarcerated Women (AIW)
Location: Remote
Duration: Spring 2024 (Flexible start and end dates)
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week (flexible to accommodate student schedules)

About AIW:
The Alliance for Incarcerated Women (AIW) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for the rights and dignity of incarcerated women and their families. We work to reform the criminal justice system, raise awareness about issues affecting incarcerated women, and provide direct support to impacted communities. Through education, outreach, and advocacy, AIW is committed to addressing systemic inequalities and promoting restorative justice.
Position Overview:
We are seeking passionate and motivated interns for the Spring 2024 term. This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit work, policy advocacy, and criminal justice reform. Interns will assist with research, outreach, grant writing, social media and communications, event planning, and administrative support while gaining insights into the challenges faced by incarcerated women.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on issues related to incarcerated women, criminal justice reform, and policy developments and use findings to contribute to grant applications and other organizational communications
- Assist with social media content creation, including posting updates, sharing news, and promoting events.
- Support event coordination and virtual outreach efforts for public awareness campaigns.
- Help draft advocacy materials such as newsletters, policy briefs, and blog posts.
- Participate in team meetings and provide administrative assistance as needed.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program; criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or related field or passion for criminal justice reform and women’s issues
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.
- Excellent time management skills; project management experience is a plus
- Prior experience in research, advocacy, or nonprofit work is a plus but not required.
