Position Overview
The role of the Clinical Research Assistant is to perform a wide variety of clinical and administrative tasks to assist all members of the research team executing clinical research study protocols. The research assistant is responsible for study support activities including all aspects of the processing of lab work accurately, according to the protocol, and on time. This position will process lab samples as per protocol and lab manual specifications, ship lab samples as per lab manual and protocol timelines.

The Clinical Research Assistant reports to the Team Lead, Site Manager or General Manager.
Classification: Non-Exempt
Primary Responsibilities:
· Assist coordinators with administrative study activities in a timely manner as necessary.
· Basic understanding of SOPs and ensure they are adhered to in the conduct of the clinical research study.
· Perform clinical data collection such as vital signs, EKG recording, subject weights, ie.
· Process and package lab specimens for shipment to central labs according to lab manual instructions for each study.
· Maintain a safe work environment making sure all IATA, OSHA research standards are met in the lab. As directed, maintenance of the lab equipment.
· Unpack and put away lab supplies and study materials as received from sponsors. Break down when study is over.
· Maintain all clinical supply inventories to ensure no shortages. Work with study coordinators on reorders.
· Maintain logs for refrigerator, freezer, pregnancy, cleaning, drug storage room and scales.
· Clean and sanitize all subject rooms, lab, and phlebotomy area daily.
· Work with study coordinator and scheduler if repeat labs are necessary for a subject.
· Assist coordinators with clinical study activities in a timely manner as necessary.
· Draw blood and obtain specimens from subjects according to established procedures.
· Measure vital signs on subject
· Perform EKGs on subjects
· Assist study coordinators with “next day” study visit preparation each afternoon.
· Assist in completion of study forms as necessary, accurately and completely.
· Restock subject bathrooms and exam rooms as needed.
· Assist doctor(s) with procedures, as directed.
· Other duties or tasks as assigned.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
· Phlebotomy and lab processing experience, preferred. Able to manage lab processing requirements of multiple clinical research studies at the same time.
· Past medical office experience, medical certificate or equivalent previous work experience, preferred.
· Ability to effectively devote keen and acute attention to detail.
· Excellent task management, organization and prioritization skills.
· Demonstrated ability to exercise standard universal Precautions, or ability to quickly learn and apply Universal Precautions.
· Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
· Excellent follow up. Detail oriented.
· Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment where processes change and improve continually.
· Able to function independently without constant supervision and adapt to change.
· Positive attitude and the ability and desire to work in a company that embraces collaboration and a team approach.
· Professional and highly motivated “self-starter” with the ability to exercise initiative.
