For 125 years, the Alliance has served as a respected resource for French learning in a supportive and immersive environment. In collaboration with local and international organizations, the Alliance provides an immersive outreach program that has impacted the lives of more than 600 CPS students, as well as enriching cultural programs that reflect the evolving diversity and richness of the French-speaking world. The role
As the Learning Center Intern, you will report directly to the School and Youth Programs Managers to support the diverse needs of the Learning Center, including assisting with the Preschool Program, Exams, Field Trips, Communications, and a variety of other projects.
You will join a team of professionals who are passionate about our mission to help people learn, explore, and connect with others, especially those who have an interest in France and Francophone cultures and communities.
This is a great experience for a French-speaking candidate who is interested in working in a dynamic multicultural school setting, with a focus on Education or Early Childhood Education.
Core responsibilities
- Perform assigned duties specific to the operational and clerical needs of the Learning Center.
- Work alongside experienced Preschool teachers, assisting them in preparing lesson materials and providing in-class support during lessons.
- Provide administrative support for diverse needs within all our numerous programs, including maintaining spreadsheets and files for record-keeping and reporting on the Summer Camp and Preschool classes.
- Help coordinate and facilitate Field Trips at the Alliance.
- Work with the Youth Programs Manager on organizing the Summer Camp volunteers and scheduling.
- Supervise children and act as an assistant to or sub for preschool teachers
- Participate in the planning, support and execution of virtual and in-person engagements (Open Houses, Immersion Day, School workshops, etc.).
- Assist with website maintenance and data entry relating to adult and youth classes and School events.
- Work with the School Manager in coordinating and administering various French-language exams.

- Knowledge of French at the Intermediate to Proficient level
- Excellent organizational skills, especially in Google Suite
- Interest in French language and Francophone cultures
- Self-directed and able to work independently
Compensation & benefits
A monthly stipend of $1,000 is available. Our employees also benefit from free language classes at Chicago’s finest institutions for French, Italian, Spanish, and German education. There is also a $65/year Divvy for Business Partial Subsidy.
Internship duration & schedule
This internship starts in September and will last for six months, or possibly longer. Intern will work 30-40 hours per week, mostly weekdays with occasional evenings or Saturdays for events. Paid time off.
