General Function

Qualifications, Knowledge And Required Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human Services or related activity from an approved university training program.
- Ability to work effectively in a crisis service delivery setting dealing with individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Ability to use mature judgment in problem resolution and to formulate appropriate crisis intervention strategies for Center clients.
- The person must be able to demonstrate self-motivation, and excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well with others.
- The person must be a good listener and possess the ability to be supportive and be able to help others to achieve a feeling of well being.
- The person in this position must be able to meet credentialing standards as established by TennCare and other pay sources.
- Conducts telephone crisis assessment of callers to determine appropriate crisis response.
- Assigns responsibility for responding to field based calls to an appropriate Crisis Specialist based on availability and requirements of the specific call.
- Accompanies a Crisis Specialist to perform field based assessments to determine the appropriate disposition for an individual located in the community who is experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Records caller and response information in the Center’s database.
- Provides “warm line” services to individuals calling in to access crisis services when appropriate and makes referrals to other agencies when indicated.
- Logs in personal belongings of individuals brought to the Crisis Assessment Center for assessment and logs belongings out when the individual leaves the Assessment Center.
- Other duties may be assigned by supervisor(s) to meet the needs of the consumer and AHS.
