Description
PURPOSE
Safety and promptly transports materials and finished goods between company plants, customers or vendor locations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Transports loads of castings, cores, raw materials and dunnage between plants and customer or vendors using tractor-trailer and in a safe manner.
- Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.
- Understands and completes necessary company documentation, including but not limited to Bills of Lading, customer documentation, shipping documentation, log books, inspection records, etc.
- Communicates professionally with internal and external customers.
- Maintains DOT compliance with qualifications required and communicates any changes.
- Verifies truck is secured in dock or loading/unloading areas at plants or other locations. Uses proper safety devices such as chocks, locks or stabilizer jacks prior to entering or allowing others to enter the trailer.
- May load and unload trucks.
- May help out in other areas of the plant.
- Regular attendance and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
Certificate or degree beyond high school completion in the area of transportation or related field. Must be able to provide proof of state and federal licensure, hazmat endorsement, current CDL motor vehicle operating privileges and medical certification. 3 or more years of tractor-trailer experience strongly preferred. Must be able to read and interpret documents related to the transportation process. Above average communication skills in both verbal and written formats. Average computer skills to be able to open, use and print documents in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
