POSITION DESCRIPTION: PREVENTION SPECIALIST
Title: Prevention Specialist
Salary: $37,000
Status: Full-time, Permanent
Position Purpose:
Prevention Specialists execute the Integrated Targeted Testing Services (ITTS) program activities, including community-based HIV/STI testing, condom distribution, navigation to PrEP, linkage to care, and educational outreach. This position will also have a large focus on educational Mpox outreach, and vaccine referrals.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site and community-based HIV/STI testing, outreach, and risk-reduction counseling.
- Assist in the formation and implementation of Mpox Vaccine Clinics and outreach events.
- Produce and distribute educational material and content on Mpox prevention
- Implement the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) protocol to reduce HIV infection risk among priority populations.
- Link HIV clients to care and treatment resources in a timely manner.
- Refer clients with positive STI tests to treatment and partner notification services.
- Respond to in-person, email, and phone inquiries regarding prevention/care services.
- Adhere to strict procedures of confidentiality, release of information, and data security.
- Maintain accurate and complete participant records, tracking contacts, counseling, testing, referrals, and outreach performance as defined by local/state/federal entities.
- Complete required trainings including CTR, phlebotomy, blood-borne pathogens, cultural competence, and others as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree and 2 years of HIV/AIDS volunteer/professional experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in health education, public health, or a closely related field preferred.
- CRT and Phlebotomy certificates, or the ability to earn the certificates within 45 days of hire.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of HIV/STI prevention, treatment, and risk-reduction strategies.
- Minimum of one-year experience related to community organizing in community settings.
- Knowledge, experience, and comfort working with diverse populations, including people living with HIV and LGBTQ individuals.
- Microsoft Office proficiency, including data entry and accessing web-based applications and systems.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced, high volume environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is highly desired.
